Chinese LED Lights

I saw you had suggested 120 optics in a canopy, would it hurt any to go with those? I don't want to lose too much light hitting the sides of my canopy.

Is this a good standard design they have listed on that site?

Hey BHazard,

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the great information!!
I got a question:
You mention that if unplugged it would revert back to original settings. I have a decent amount of rolling electrical surges which i would assume would mess up any settings that i would set. Is there any confirmation it will be this way with the final? Do you think i should hook it up to a battery backup?
Glad to also see that reef breeders color layout seems to be on point with some of your testing with the green and red leds. I am really excited to get mine in a few weeks!!

After more swapping of lights between my Cree unit and the IT2040, I've come to the conclusion that you need red and cyan/green leds, even if you use warmer whites, for the best color. I have a watermelon zoa that is my reference, and it just looks better with my Cree unit.

The easiest way to add this, would be to just remove 4 whites from the ratio I used, and use 2 reds, 2 greens instead. This is another reason why I like these lights, if you aren't 100% happy, you can do something about it.

Another thing I found... if you edit the sunrise/sunset schedule and unplug the device... it loses the settings and the clock freezes until it turns back on. You won't be able to use a timer, but luckily you won't need to anyway. Not sure if the final version will be like this. This can get annoying if you need to unplug the device quite a bit like I've been doing.

I also think a lighter blue led would be better for the moonlights. The 450nm royal blues can get very purpleish when dimmed 5% and under.

I forgot to hit "Save" on the settings. They should stick, and the unit does have a battery inside.

The clock might be a pre-production thing.

Nice! Good to know.

In your opinion is that a good layout or is there something better I should suggest, I am ready to pull the trigger on this....

A little more blue is what I am looking for, I guess my main concern is are those the right blues to have and the right whites to have since I have read through this thread and previous one that there are multiple kinds. And if I should have the red and violet and green or instead of green use cyan. I am sorry if I am coming off a little pushy I would just like to get this order in today and have been following this thread and the other for months and now that the time has come I am a little freaked out. Originally I was just going to go with the Blue/White/Violet unit, but feel red/green or cyan will add more to the spectrum and look better.

There are multiple ways. Cool White (7k+up) is the industry standard because the blue in it can penetrate deeply. Neutral + Warm Whites are making strides due to the wider spectrum range inside them, and the fact that royal blue leds already have plenty of blue in them.

No matter what amount of leds you choose, if you keep one channel white (+ colors), and one channel blue, you can adjust the dimmers to get the exact look you want.

Now that I think about it this is what I would like to go with probably... but should I change out two of those V for some cyan or green?

Bit of a sidenote, but how do people create these design layouts and edit them? Is there something online that does this or am I just missing something...

I used google draw to make the layout you just referenced. I did make one mistake on it, the Warm whites are 3500k not 10000-14000k

Not yet, waiting for the next paycheck before i pull the trigger. BHazard thinks I can get the D120 with an alternating PCB board so I am planning on getting the following layout if possible to get better color spread. I am still open to suggestions if anybody has any though.

bhazard451,

Is it okay to have royal blue and red together on the first dimmer?

Ex...

Dimmer 1 : 26 Blue + 2 Red
Dimmer 2 : 23 White + 4 Violet

Is this okay?

Highly recommend it to focus the light into the tank. In a canopy, the light is reflected back into the tank. Without a canopy, the light would spill outside the tank due to the led angle unless you placed it very close to the water line. Use optics if you hang it 6" or more.

Sunny told me they didn't offer optics on the it120. She said the leads themselves are 90
Degree. Did she tell you something different bhazard?

Just came up with this... What you guys think....

B W B W B W B W B W B

W B W V W B W V W B W

B UV B R B W B R B UV B

W B W V W B W V W B W

B W B W B W B W B W B

Dimmer 1: 24 Blues + 4 Violet
Dimmer 2: 23 Cool Whites + 2 Red + 2 UV

They started using led angles of 90 degrees not too long ago. Optics wouldn't be needed as long as they use those leds.

I'd still get optics anyway for myself, as they can be useful, are cheap to get from them, and could be used in the future. I retained my Nova optics and used them for my DIY light.
