Chinese LED Lights

Hey bhazard, I added a few reds and greens to your previous layout. Should I change anything else or replace different bulbs for the reds and greens?

OK, I'm looking to replace 2x400 watt 14K metal halides on my 54x30x30 tank. I'm growing SPS long term. Tips would be great! Thanks!!!

There seems to be a ton of questions on tank height and depth, just wanted to throw my .02 cents in.

my tank is 72x31x31 i used only 3 leds with 120 degree optics for over a year with amazing results, mixed tank but alot of SPS.

I now use 5 lights, three with 90 degree optics and two with 120 degree optics..on both lights i only run blues and white...blues at 454 and 460 nm and white at 6500K and 10-1200K.

My corals look great i grow things on side walls, bottom of the tank ( sps included) back and front of the tank etc. great color , great growth( IMO its because of regular water changes, constant testing and even more important constant observation of my corals) not so much the lights i use.

I must note i have and will always run two 6 foot VHO actinic tubes on my tank as well along with my leds..

Just wanted to let people know you will get enough spread and par to grow corals at that depth. When i ran three lights with 120 degree optics they were 4 inches off of my tank now that i run 5 LEDS with the 90 degree optics they sit about 8-10 inches off the waters surface..

Hope that helps people...

Can anyone tell me the wavelength for Cyan to use instead of the Green 520nm? I am trying to see if Evergrow has one to use in my setup. Thanks

Has anyone experimented with using multiple optics on a unit? For instance wide angle on interior lights and more focused on the outer lights? Or how about wide angle in the rear of the fixture and above rock work and more focus in the front? I just was thinking if par to sand bed is an issue, why not add a couple more focused optics to the lights directly over the sand bed ;) Any input?

If no one has tried this maybe someone with multiple types of optics could test it out for us to see if there could be a benefit to it ;)

On a side note, anyone know what happened to the dsdaley guy? He was local to me and posted a pic of an interesting DIY modification to what looked like a D-120 he might do. I would really like to follow that build as it seems very interesting to me.

Yes, it was your post that got me thinkin ;) Was really curious regarding multiple types of optics on ONE unit. So who's got the light, optics and par meter?

sorry bout that...

ill post pics of my light setup , tank and par readings this week for everyone..

No problem ;)

Bhazard, what are your thoughts on multiple optics in one fixture? You seem to be the go to guy so to speak and it wouldn't be a surprise to me if you had tried something like this ;)

You might have to play around with it to get it to look right, but I don't see any glaring reasons not to. If anything, I might remove the optics on my reds and cyans to cover more area.

I don't like optics under 90 degrees one bit unless you have a very deep tank over 36" and are forced to use them. I prefer 90 or no optics to reduce spotlighting. There is plenty of PAR to the sandbed already, and you would lose too much spread going with 60 degrees or under.

Hey Bhazard,

I got the 2 D120's in with your layout that you posted. I'm wondering if there's some special way to mount this, without hanging it from the ceiling. I've seen some on the forums but I'd like to know if there's any suggestions you got?

I got the 90 degree optics with a tank that is 19" deep. (It didn't look too great when I put it on top of my glass canopies.

Thanks!
Roger

Kind of to add onto his question, does anyone know the best way to mount these (D120) in a canopy or have pictures of how they did it. I know people have done it and posted before, but I cannot find them. Thanks.
