Chinese LED Lights

anyone????

The D120 can either be done in rows or checkerboard.

I couldn't make up my mind with the D120, and with my new tank having a brace, I just bit the bullet and bought the Nova A8 instead and I am all ready in love! It just arrived this morning.

Shimmer

Shimmer

Albano hi...
That's not quite the same pattern but almost. Reds are in the center, just slightly different orientation.

Yeah it's pretty bad. I used to have MH and there was shimmer with that, but that was a much more natural shimmer. And the reds just make it look pink

This looks like I am pushing my light down through a kaleidoscope. It makes my eyes go all wonky and I can't see details like I could under my old crappy T5s.

Now...disclaimer...

I am running this over a 40 breeder...running it about 9 inches over the water...no optics.

Also...all my rock is still pratically bone white...which really exacerbates the color changes in the shimmer.

And I have a LOT of surface agitation, so lots of shimmer.

Logan at Reefbreeders was very helpful...he is shipping me some cool whites to swap in for the reds.

Despite the coloration issue I really like the light. If I can just get it to look a little more...calm, in there, it will be awesome.

Was thinking about using some kind of diffuser...but dont want to crush the output of the lights too much. Hm...mirror-finished egg crate? A piece of plastic cover from an industrial flourescent fixture...not sure...will have to hit Home Depot. :-)

I wouldn't go with the egg crate, this will likely make the problem worse as it will work to direct the light downward.....go with a sheet-style diffuser.

Question for those with Evergrow or Twilight auto dimmer fixtures.

How do you have your dimmer timers setup? Just want to get some other setup ideas.

Not sure if this was answered, you should use 120 degree beam angle led when using optics. You ca get away with the 90, but it is pointless. 60 never as the led physically has a peak, putting an optic on it and fastening will crack the led.

Do you have a link to that info... I really don't know what is correct, but it seems like many people are advising to go with 90*

Has anyone try to keep a Crocea Clam with the 120 Watt LED?

My tank is 40gallon breeder. 36 inch long. Tank is about 20 inches high. My chinese LED fixture is about 6 inches above the tank.

would this be okay for a clam?

BTW I only have one LED fixture.

Yea Kevin I use a d120 with no optics and 120 degree leds on my 65 gall ( same dimensions as a 40 breeder just a little taller) I have 2 clams in my sand bed , here is some proof...

Yay... I finally ordered my d120. I can't wait for it to get here. Here is my fts before the light overhaul.

Does the to be released 32" reef breeders fixture look decent?

I want to go LED on my tank for growth and support SPS/LPS, but I don't want to break the bank. I would like to come in under $500 to light a 48" 75G. (reason for the question)
