Chinese LED Lights

okay, and i took out a few UV as they are prone to burning? is Violet a good supplement, i have a good 8 of those in there,
also :D is 4 red and algae farm, i feel i should do 2-3

Incredibly easy if you use Evergrow/Reefbreeders fixtures. YMMV if you have another brand of fixture. Twilight leds were not changeable when I tried it.

You just de-solder the led from the board, and solder the new led in its place. It must be a bridgelux/epistar type led with the same form factor though. You can't just solder a Cree led in there.

Having this flexibility is a very nice feature. With many fixtures (outside of AI) you get what you get, and can't make changes to fit a look that you'd like. Pucks like AI does are also expensive, compared to just changing a few leds.

Thanks that's just what I needed to know! Wasn't sure if I had to do anything special. Any reason you know of that you can't do this with the twilight LED's? Unfortunately I just looked it up and it seems that is what I have.

i got a light from reefbreeders. its the 120w with timer. i ordered it with 90 degree optics and not i dont like it. it is to much of a spot light. the tank is 36 long and only 16 deep. so i took them off. just to correct myself in my picture that is the optics taken off right.. and now it makes it a 120 degree...

does anyone know if these d120's can be fitted in a RSM 130d without too much hassle and keeping the top on?

I had mine over an RSM 130d. Ditch the top completely, it is a heat trap.

Run an open tank with a screen top over it. Hang the light or create your own mounting legs for it.

thanks for the quick answer. What do you think of the 50 watt chips? I was thinking about installing two of those, one blue and one 10000k. I need to fit them inside the top for various reasons :)

Garbage. Huge gaps in spectrum, and your coral will look like crap after a few weeks/months.

How high did you hang the lights? With optics they should be 6" to 12" above the tank, maybe even more since it is only 16" deep.

that's what my problem was . with the canopy i built it is only going to be like 6 inches from the top and i went ahead and ordered the 90 optics just in-case i needed them in the future. but did i take my optics off correctly?? there is a clear plastic actual round optic and that with round plastic piece. i took both off

Yes. The whole thing justs twists off and twists back on. Very easy, and much nicer than glue.

I just ordered this evergrow 120d Christmas special.... Having no clue of what colors or leds I get, I would like some criticism... Please!

I'm replacing my t5 stock tubes in my rsm 130d...

Thats the same one Im looking at. Theres no UV but the other colors seem pretty good. Im a LED newbie and have read over half the pages here and it seems like a decent combo of colors.

Can anyone tell me if this is going to be a good layout for corals. 3 d120 with 90 optics over a 150 bowfront. Want a 18-20k look still enough for corals not so much they bleach kinda thing. Thanks

There are 4 leds with 420 nm on the christmas offer, thats pritty close to the upper uv wavelength of 400 nm.

Talked to sunny over chat. Nice guys and lots of smileys

Now if I only could find a cheapy lcd control timer-dimmer ...

Can anyone tell me the difference between violet and UV? Is it true to not use the uv as they burn? And whats the impact of them on corals?
