Chinese LED Lights

OK. New question here. I have been wanting to upgrade my d120 drivers. I remember hearing someone on here switching them out. Was it you bhazard? What driver am I looking for. Like from meanwell or someone else. Any ideas?

Don't do it.

Way too much work, and the custom ones I used won't fit in the fixture. Sell the d120 off and get a reefbreeders one which they modify for you. The cost if you were to do it yourself is almost the same.

I think Twilight or Greensun make apex dimmable ones now too, so that is another option for a bit cheaper.

Whats the deal with the different drivers? Im looking into buying some d120s. are the "value led fixtures" by reefbreeders the ones with the good drivers? 180 seems like a good price to me, whats the best led fixture i can get? Theres so many to choose from!
 
I just bought the Reefbreeder value fixture on December 16th, 2012. It arrived today December 24th, 2012. I'm surprised it got here so fast during the holidays.

Packaging was good, no concerns when I opened the box. Everything works and it comes with a hanging kit. I'm pretty happy. I will buy a 2nd value fixture to cover the other half of my tank after my corals start growing and I want to see if I'm satisfied with this unit. I did not use any optics so that I can get more spread in my light.

Only complaint is that my email questions (relating to fixture's capability with my tank) was not answered.

The light will cover my 46g coral only tank.

The light is way to far to the left ...your light coverage to the left of the fixture is Being wasted on the sand and glass and spillage ... center the light and it will prob cover the whole thing. .. unfortunately you have a center brace .. I replace all my center braces with a piece of acrylic before I fill it with water that way there is no worries of shadowing....

I ran the same light on My 65 centered and it fully covered it ... mine was 120 degree (no optics) from wat I can tell yours has no optics also

Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm in the process of planning/building a 178 gallon (66"x26"x24") SPS dominant reef. I've had some success with LED's and SPS and am not concerned on that front.

My research was pointing to the Mitras but this thread has me very much intrigued.

Given my dimensions, I'm considering 2 of the 32" (would that be overkill? I feel like the light would be outside of the glass.), 3 of the 16" units or possibly 2 Supernovas from reefbreeders. The lower profile might be aesthetically pleasing as well.

I haven't seen any discussion of the Supernova on here however.

It sounds to me like many of you will be receiving your lights within the next few weeks. I'm along for the ride and appreciate all of the time many of you have put into this thread.

I was eventually going to buy a second Reefbreeder value fixture to cover the other half of my tank. Nice to know a single unit can grow clams!

Looks good. Seems this light would be good for my 30 gallon cube.

Its a 65 gallon and yes its the same thing as the reef breeders value its a d120 ever grow makes them in china reef breeders buys them from evergrow and resells them ... I don't have videos of that tank, I ran the d120 on it for about 8 months and it worked great but I upgraded to a 120 gallon tank so now I'm waiting on two of the it2060 units from reef breeders (made by evergrow) .... Terrance did you try centering it and raising it to see if it would cover better? Only problem is by raising it you will prob get some light spill or be an eye sore if your tank is right by your couch, it might blind you some lol ... I didn't have this problem thanks to the Canopy

Yeah I held the fixture over the center and all the light spread well. I am surprised that therr is no shaddow even with the brace blocking.

In my picture, I was holding the fixture over my tank. I dont mind the spill. I have my fish tanks in my own area of the house with little foot traffic.

what kind of soldering iron do you need to change out the leds? I bought a 30W one that says it goes up to 450 C degrees, turned it all the way up, let it heat up but it wont melt the solder on each led.

Because the first one lasted 3 days for the blue side. Now white side went out after a couple months. Figured it would be a smart thing to do. I just hate dealing with EG. Although they have been very helpful. I'm trying to save myself some aggravation.

Got my 16" 120watt Controllable Fixture from Reefbreeders. The light looks good and seems sturdy.

For whoever said their remote was broken, they put a piece of plastic in the battery compartment, so make sure you removed it.

I'm kinda wishing I had gotten the manual version now. When this thing is plugged into the outlet, it makes an electronic whine. Nothing you would notice during the day, but it is close enough to where I sleep to be a problem. If I am going to need to cut the power to the unit, then the digital controls are a hindrance. The new plastic smell is pretty fierce too, though I expect it will fade.
