Chopping down a frogspawn

Fountainhead

I brought home a nice frogspawn the other day. It's got a pretty long stem (is that the proper term for it?) that splits near the top (like a branching tree) with one part having three heads, and the other two. The problem is that I'm having a hard time situating it so that they're all exposed to direct light. Seems like the heads at the bottom are shaded significantly by the heads above them and don't extend as much.

Questions...how direct does the light need to be? Will the heads below and somewhat shaded ultimately die?

One idea I had was to split it where the stem branches and have two smaller frogspawns. If I did this, how should I cut it? It'd be pretty thick at the point I'd have to make the cut. Could it be cut with some sharp scissors? A steak knife? Razor blade? I don't think my saber saw is reef safe.

Advice?

And wear goggles! You don't want to get living coral blasted into your corneas---it's big trouble!

There skeletal branches are very porous and not dense, the can snap off quite easily but for a clean cut I would suggest gardening sheers. Or industrial strenth scissors.:)Dont use the good scissors and **** the 'ol lady off!;)

I hear that. I had to buy her a new blender last week just because I used the old one to grind up some shrimp, squid tentacles and assorted other raw sea creature parts. She never used the blender anyway. Picky picky.

I would recommend the dremel over the scissors. If you aren't careful the skeleton can crush under the scissors and you could end up with an unintended frag.

I'm holding off on the carpentry for the moment. I decided to do some long-needed re-aquascaping this morning. Ouside of kicking up a load of long-settled junk (here's hoping the euroreef is up to the task) it seems to have been successful. Better spots for all, and full light for the frogspawn.

Lets hope I didn't stress everyone too much. Besides me I mean.
