ChrisQ's Upgrade Build....Again

Not that big of an update today but I managed to get a few things done.

I'm not able to hang my lights where I'm going so I had to make bracket, so to say, for my lights.

Had to make pilot holes before making the size I needed which were 1/4"

Next I measure where I wanted each one, drilled holes into the stand and installed with bolts.

And the finished turnout.

I also managed to sand the entire stand and plan to start paint the sump area tomorrow, I may also start staining if I have the time.

Got around to painting the inside white and bought 2 different color stains and didn't like either... I'm gonna try new colors later today or tomorrow morning. I want to have it stained/sealed by the end of tomorrow.

Nice work Chris! Stand looks great. I like the light hangers too.

Thank you, I'm not crazy about them but since I can't hang from the ceiling I'll have to learn to live with them.

I'm envious of your woodworking skills! It looks fantastic =)

Thanks but if I can do it anyone can. Key thing is to double check..triple check all your measurements. Also having the right tools for the job helps. I'm not saying get the most expensive thing out there just something that'll make your life easier.

I have no idea what went wrong with my doors but I went to a different store bought different stain and different color and stained the stand. I followed the same procedure that I did for the doors and the stand came out MUCH better. Tomorrow or Tuesday I will be sanding down the doors so I can re-stain them.

Here's how the stand looks with one coat on the skin and 2 coats on the trim.

Did you use a priests in conditioner? There may also be some areas that don't absorb the stain as well so you may need to let it soak longer or apply more coats.

Do you mean pre stain? If so then yes I did on both. I let the conditioner sit for the max time 15min and then let the stain sit for 6min. Either way I have to sand the doors because of the color change. I like the color of the stand more anyway because of the red tint it has.

Have you thought about painting them to blend into the wall?

I was actually thinking of painting them black, but I get what you're saying. I'm not sure how good it will look though. The black I was going to spray on, to match the walls I would have to roll/brush on

I ordered some glass baffles and picked them up today. I messed up with my measuring, aka I read what other people used. I have a 40B for my sump and had the pieces cut 17.5" long and they are too big. My question is can I have them at an angle as shown or do I need to order new pieces?

I have a question for everyone.... Maxspect gyre or mp40? I'm debating which one to get. I currently have a mp10 and wp25 in my 57 and don't think that would be enough flow in my 80. With the dramatic price drop in the mp40 I don't know which is the better bet. The new gyre or the proven mp?

What are your thoughts?

well... im goin to say it like this... FLOW is FLOW.. if you wanna BALL!!!:eek1: and buy the MP 40 and that other one then go and do it.. or if you wanna be chilling then go another route. so many other ways to get your REEF FLOW.. I always though of all this HIGH money reef equipment till it hit me :headwally::headwally: when I sell it im not goin to get what I paid..

+ you can save some CASH and buy other things to enjoy your tank. other then wait to re-up on cash to buy things.. just my 2cents:thumbsup:
