Christygirl's new Leemar 180 build!

Thank you for the reply.

Marty

Marty,

The rock was once live rock. I put it in the bin and added 20 gallons of RODI water. Then, I added 1 gallon of Muratic acid.

I let it "cook" for 3 hours.

Then, I neutralized it with a pool strength base similar to to baking soda.

Then, rinsed and rinsed and rinsed....

Then soaked over night in RODI water with a pump for circulation.

Then changed the water.

I will probably do this 2 to 3 more times.

The reason I did this was to basically kill the rock and get to a point where it has close to no organic matter matter on it.

I am trying to eliminate as much of the crap that I can.

I am thinking about doing the soak that helps eliminate Phosphorus as well.

I think that I may use the Lanthanum Chloride method.... Not sure yet...

Might jus get it in the tank and go high on the GFO for a while before I add the fish.

OK, Well, I haven't updated in a while, but, this tank is finally going..... I have done a tone of work.

First of all, After "cooking" all of the rock, I was talking to the rep of Aquitecture. Merit Fisher. I wanted to get some Detox Blox.

So, I bought 40 lbs.

It came in 3 days!

I used some of it to "elevate" my skimmer.

I used some of it to "fill" my refugium.

Then I have a few of each size to cycle out as needed.

Well, As I was talking to Merit, I found out that she is a rep for Cerameco. I asked about their rocks.

She sent me some pictures of rocks that for a myriad of reasons, were made and then not delivered....

So, I found one in particular that I really liked.

This rock is a beast.

24" wide.
20" tall.
18" Deep.

What was cool about this was that Merit was able to get it loaded and delivered to RAP for me for $50.00.....

No shipping on this one.

It weighs over 50 lbs.

I needed help to get this one in the tank.

Well, long story short, I decided to buy 2 broken arches for a smokin' deal and two broken bonzai structures also for a smokin deal from the Cerameco booth while I was there.

Here is a shot of it:

Not the best pic, but, I will post better.

Then this weekend happened!

Brian, (Discotu) bought my Leemar 90.

He came down from valencia and Ev'e (Fishybeaner) helped us down the tank.

Whle we did that, Eve' brought me an unbelievable Frag Pack.

Ev'e took my purple tang and my Flame angle to his 225.

I have a Desjardin tang and atlantic blue that are going in the tank from my tomato bin holding tank.

I also have Mike (Solitude) potters angle and multicolor angle.

I am trying to have a less stressful tank.

So, over the next 2 weeks, I will begin to introduce fish.

I have already introduced quite a few pieces of coral.

I will post pics later this week when I can take a real picture of them....

The pool table has sold, but, is still at the house and it makes it hard to take a straight on tank shot.

My tank is finally starting to look real nice!

It only took 7 months!!!

My redo took forever too :(
I will do corals first for few months then add the fish later on maybe in Christmas if I can catch my cleaner wrasse this week, if not I will have no fish on the main tank till February :(

Very nice update! That rock is bad arse!!!

Reef of flames.... Yes, I agree. It is nice. 4 of the pieces have a purple tint to them and the one big piece has a red tint to it.... I am looking forward to it maturing with coraline and such....

I really like the "barnacle" huts on them.... My new McCloskers wrasse took up residence in the front one.

How do you like the CeramEco stuff? I bought some at RAP as well and will probably use it when I redo my tank.

Mike. My only regret.... I should have bought a couple of bigger pieces.... I love this stuff.... It is very light and porous. I think that, with the detox Blox will really be nice. Also, no pests to begin with....

Tank is finally starting to come alive. Thanks for the update. Keep the pics coming.

Goreef65. Yes it is... I put some nice coral frags in them and this weekend, I will start to migrate my fish over to the tank.... If all goes well, I will be able to down my tomato bin in the next couple of weeks!

I am really looking forward to seeing how the fish claim their space!

Lawrence. That sounds like a plan. Your tank is really amazing. I would like to have a tank that is viewable from two sides like yours!

I was good meeting Brian, man. I was surprised how little the desjardini bugged the purple tang when I introduced him. So far every one is getting along...I hope it stays that way.

Very nice. Those look like adult Legos haha
Gregrocks. Hey wait a second. I still play with regular Legos. The technical ones for sure. I just got a new Lego car to build last month.

seeing the tank in person is awe-inspiring! the attention to every detail is truly amazing...
Brian. Thanks. Hopefully you feel the same way about your new tank. I am looking forward to seeing that tank up and running. Post some pics and it was real nice meeting you. Good luck!

I've been trying to find out the best way to turn old live rock into dry rock. I'll have to give that a try
Davyjone. The process is real easy. Just remember. Pour the acid into the water. Not the other way around. Also the longer you can soak in rodi afterwards with many frequent changes, the better. A the end o the day, I ended up not using it and I will actually be getting rid of most of it.

Ev'e. as always thanks for your help. Thanks for the frags. I am happy that my fish fit well in your tank. You are a first class person and I appreciate you.

As I learned in chemistry labs: "Do as you oughta, and add acid to worta"(water) lol
Hard to spell water as if it was said with a New York accent :p

I did it. I bought an ATB Elegance 200 skimmer yesterday.

Today's projects:

Doser and new skimmer

Congrats on the skimmer!
