Chrysurus Angelfish

Anyone have any experience with them? I have one in my QT for 4 weeks now and it is about 4 inches just getting the adult coloration. Eats well and all, but I think it is a bit aggressive.

It chases the blonde naso and blotchy anthias all day.

Anyone has similar experience?

TIA

Chrysurus Angelfish

How big is the qt tank sunny ?

Large Angels from my experiences are very aggressive with exception of regal angel. I have to separate my 5-6" emperor from my main tank because it's bullying everyone in the main tank.

Hi Lawrence

The QT is 180G.

Powder blue, 2 blotchy Anthias, Blone Naso, Folweri Tank and one Chromis.

Eveyone in 4 - 5 inch range.

I have many angels in my reef, but this Chrysurus Angelfish seems very aggressive already. I am having second thoughts on adding it to my DT.

The DT is 350G with Blue face, Regal, Scribbled, Blue line, Watanabie and Interruptus.

I've had mine for about 12 years now. It is not aggressive towards any of the fish in the tank, but it doesn't take any crap and can hold its own. I've got it in with a 9" blueline and a 8" xmas island emperor, among others. Surprisingly it has hardly grown in length since I got it. Very nice and fat, but still around 7".

I guess it depends on the tank mates, size and species.
Question Sir does your xmi emperor keep the bright Orange tail? It seems like every xmi I got and saw eventually fades in color a little bit some within days. Thanks.

I have one in my 240g 8' tank. It's not aggressive to any fish, including several angels. The melaopus clowns actually tend to beat it up regularly for some reason. I'm hoping this changes as he grows.

I had a pair is a reef forever. They act like every other Poma angelfish in temperament. Mine left the other fish alone, but did not appear to take any BS from the other fish. It did not bother any coral or nip at any clams, but they were very well fed. They grew quickly to about 8" and then kinda stopped. Eventually, they had to move to the FOWLR where the excessive food that they required did not bother my reef.

I grew mine from a juvi and it has never reached that orange coloring.

Do you mean in the chest and forehead area? Does it have the telltale ring on the side of its head yet?

I've kept them before. My experience was they held their ground, but didn't go after anyone. They do however love to eat polyps and decimated zoa populations quicker than you can imagine.

Mine is really mellow, almost to a fault, unless you're a juvenile Annularis; don't turn your back, because you will lose some fins... I'm hopeful this is temporary situation and will pass once the Annularis color patterns change, if not, things might get ugly.

They are both from the same genus so I guess it's logical for them to have issues. Do you have other pomancanthus in the tank?

Agreed with most above. I had a juv I grow to a 5" adult before I took down my 800g.
He was not aggressive at all but held his own again my emp. It was a mixed reef and never really touched anything. I fed all the time too. So he was fat and healthy. Watching the face change and chest is very cool.

I had a juvi in my old 300 gallon Angel & Butterfly FOWLR that was extremely passive. Although he was also in with 8 other angels, one of which was a 7" male Scribbled that kept everyone in line. Chrysurus angels are definitely an underrated fish.

I have also kept a full adult in a 180 with a small Regal and Blueline with no aggression.
