Chubster The New Mandarin

Here's my new mandarin. I've waited months after creation of a 'fuge, and now since I can see a preponderance of pods, I thought the time was right. I went to my LFS and looked over the 3 they had, (not including the cigar-sized fat boys in the coral tank which aren't for sale). I observed this guy was eating well at the store, so I picked him.

He's pretty chubby considering his sedentary lifestyle, but I had him remove his smoking jacket and get his butt of the leather recliner, and home we went.

After acclimation and a quick birdseye view of the tank, he settled on one of the highest pieces of liverock, and allaying much of my concern, he was eating within 15 seconds of getting in the tank.

I gave him his smoking jacket back. He'll have to do without the recliner. ;D;D

very appropriately named lol. he looks great. Ive been planning my fuge the same way just to own one if these guys. very nice find

Looks good. If you do notice him getting skinny, try feeding PE Mysis. It's very nutritious compared to other brands and most mandarins love it.

OMG that is one of the fattest mandarins I have ever seen!!!! I hope I can get mine that fat!!!!

yeah, everyone is SHOCKED to see how big this girl is. And she's trained to eat sinking pellets and cyclopeeze granuals. She hardly eats off the rocks for pods. She waits for me to feed her.

DElso650, how did you train her and which brand of sinking pellets is she eating? Thanks.

I feed this to the mandarin and the rest of my fish and my corals.
I also feed them cyclopeeze granuals as well.

for training you can try the mandarin diner from MELEV, no mandarin owner should be without it.

I just turned off all the pumps, fed all the fish first then put a bunch of the cyclopeeze granuals first for the 1st couple of weeks then move in some of the sinking pellets slowly.

Now that would be nice. I'm going to give it a shot. It would be much easier than culturing pods (the original plan). Thanks.

From what I've heard the green targets are easier to train than the phycedilics but using the Melev diner increases the chances of them learning a lot.

I really believe that being that robust is not a detriment.

I've had two Psychadelic Mandarin's and they were both that size - I call him the "your mother is so faaat" fish :D

Is being that fat, healthy?

not if you're a person. If you're a fish, then it's a sign you're eating really well!

Actually, I disagree with the above.

Feeding your fish a well rounded diet is important. Yes, fish can get obese and they can wind up getting fatty livers.

Sup Eileen. Got pics of your fatty mandarins as well. ( JOIN THE PARTY ). Mines still fat but very active. Sometimes I feel the need to put her on a diet but I say what the hell, let her gourge on all the food she can muster.

Let's see if I can take a pic of him.
I see more of the "robustness" on top of his head between the eyes.
