Cirrhilabrus pylei + rubrimarginatus Vanuatu

Hi all

My LFS asked me if they should order a Cirrhilabrus pylei (Fiji) for me. Now I wonder how the pylei's from Fiji does look like as I never saw one.

Does anyone have a picture or can discribe the ones from Fiji?

Then they offer me a Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus Vanuatu. I read that the Vanuatu wrasses are very nice. I think I will order this one instead of the C. lineatus. What do you think?

I'm thinking about getting a female rubrimarinatus and letting it turn in to a male. I'm getting to be more patient all the time.

Yes, terminal males, especially from certain species (such as C. lineatus) seem to ship much more poorly than females/juveniles. I would also recommend to get a female/juvi and let it transition

I also don't have one, but that is because they do have a bad rap with other Fairy Wrasses. Not one I would keep if you are going to have other Fairies...

+1... And IME the male pylie did not hold it's coloring well

Male Fijian Pylei are truly beautiful fish. The aggression from them is less IME than the Cebuan variety. I find that they are about as aggressive as C. rubrimarginatus. However pylei and rubrimarginatus are closely related so aggression between these 2 may be worse than if other fairy wrasse species were involved.

thanks for your answers.. I have to wait for my LFS. If you say the fijian pylei is less aggressive I have to think about it. As the rubrarginatus is size XL :s

I will let you know what I order.. Someone has a rubrimarginatus from Vanuatu?
