Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis v C. jordani

I would like to put a pair / trio of fairy wrasse into a quiet tank. I'm trying to decide which of these two species is likely to keep to itself and not bully other inhabitants.

Probably prefer C. rhomboidalis but read an account elsewhere where the author said these wrasses became very aggressive to other fairies. Would like to find out whether this aggression was a rare occurrence and in general whether these wrasses are likely to be bossy to other non wrasse tankmates. Similarly I would like to find out about C. jordani.

So if anyone has firsthand experience with either species, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks for your time!

Both of those species are generally rather mild in temperament. However, there's always exceptions. C. jordani can have a tendency to become a bit more aggressive once established in a tank, but generally not to a problematic degree. There's no predicting if this might happen or not, it's simply a matter of each specimen's personality/attitude. However, it's unlikely you'll face any serious aggression, and I highly doubt any serious aggression to any non wrasse tankmates.

I agree with HUnter above. They are both larger faires, so there is a tendency for them to become the dominant fairy and there fore appear to be aggressive to the casual observer, or non wrasse nut. many times aggression amongst fairy wrasses are mistakingly identified as aggression, and in fact is their courtship ritual that happens every night, mine starts at 6 and doesnt stop until the lights go go. Also the arictine lighting also plays a factor IME and IMO.I keep both of these species with roughly 10 diffrent species consisting of 20+ fairy, flasher, and leopard wrasse.

Really had to tell. I got a Rhomboid male that was perfectly fine with 15 other wrasses. Then I add a hooded and he went wild. I caught him out for a few days and then add him back in with the hooded. Could care less about the hooded then

I have my Rhomboid with a Flame and a Nahacky, altogeter there are 10 Wrasse. All seem fine and get along. I would say the Flame is most dominant but not aggressive; he is slightly larger than the others.

My Nahacky went in last and was very timid but now is more aggressive than the Rhomboid, pecking order has been established.

I've not witnessed any problems but maybe a large group and variety of species helps to diffuse forthcoming issues.

You should have good success, ESP since your located near their poky of collection, just try to find healthy specimens that can keep them selves upright and botany. The bigges issue is demon bladder with these fish.
