Anyone kept one? Ideas on general care and size? I'm assuming very similar to C falco or C aprinus?

TIA

I saw one once and I thought it was relatively large at about 2.5-3". It looked really cool and made me want a small one. Do you have a line on where to pick one up?

Hi yeah there is one in my lfs. I've seen the size list by Scott Michael as growing to 2.5-3" but the one there is already around the upper margin without its tail and has doubled in size in the few months its been there. Thats what got me thinking it is potentially pretty large and therefore more aggressive or trickier to home in a reef community.

I have one of these, and they are my favorite hawkfish. Hardy like any other hawkfish. It doesn't get too big. I bought mine on Diver's Den last year. They had a bunch of them at the time. I guess it could be a seasonal thing..

Can i ask how big it is or how fast it is growing? and what's it like with tankmates? you say it is your favourite hawk, is that comming from those you've kept/experience or just that its neater than the rest?

TIA

Not a fast grower. It put about 1/2 inch since I had him. He's a mellow fish in the tank, but will hold his own if another fish harasses him. On Diver's Den it was listed as Japanese Golden Hawkfish. Here's a picture of mine..

Nice, thanks for that. The one i've seen is only in with a couple of damsels who keep out of the way. It appears very mischevious like others in the family but has an enormous mouth, much bigger than the number of species i've kept.
Interestingly it appeared like yours in the pic at first when it arrived in the shop but has really changed colour, perhaps maturing into a yellow adult finary.

I have one and he is awesome. A brighter golden than coral lagoon's pic (could just be lighting) not sure on the exact size, will have hubby find the tape measure later when he gets up. He was quite pricier than a long nose or a flame hawk. I've had him about 3 mos now, he was bought to replace a long nose that passed. He is a badass and takes no crap from any of the other fish, but he is also a bully to newbies. He has all the typical hawkfish behaviour and movement as well, but one funny thing about this one is that he's developed a taste for the nori I feed my tangs. It's hilarious! I'll post a pic for you later too! He is definitely larger than any flame hawk I've seen and longer than my full grown coral beauty.

I was quite keen on these when I first saw them, but I think my research said that they get large and fairly aggressive.

Mine is fine with smaller fish than him in the tank as long as they were there before him. Larger additions are ok too. But as we all should know by now every animal is different.
