Clam keepers...how much carbon are you running?

I haven't put carbon in my tank in over 6 months. I currently have

2 maximas (teardrop and ultra blue)
1 Squamosa (very large)
3 Croceas
1 Deresa

I'd chalk it up to being lazy but honestly the clams have done fine. I also don't run any phosphate removal media either.

jay.... i would remove PO4 reactor, but, i feed 4-5x a day and that can create some PO4 problems that i don't know another way to deal with? any suggestions?

the carbon i have to run at least some of for the effluant of my skimmer(i run ozone)

I run ozone or I did until just recently (haven't recharged the beads) and never used carbon. My skimmer is far enough from the main tank where it will break down before entering the main tank since ozone breaks down fairly quickly. Do you export nutrients via another method? My chaeto grows quickly. I feed 2 to 3 times a day now and haven't had any issues.

Jay i dont know if you've seen this but one of the other concerns with ozone is what it makes in sea water that carbon will remove.

jay....i just re-established a fuge in my sump...the lighting i used before allowed my chaeto to wither away to nothing, so yesterday i got a 2x55w p.c. retro and a ball of chaeto and a ball of red graci.

Yea, I read that. He also mentioned that it does break down fairly quickly in water but carbon will accelerate that and strip it out. I don't have a huge flow through my tank and never had any issues for the few months I've been running it. I will be adding carbon to it but lately, I've been slightly lazy.

I would never recommend NOT to run carbon but I've been too lazy to add it. Been busy with certifications and work.

Do people who keep clams run carbon becuase they keep clams or just becuase carbon cleans water in general? Whats benificial about running carbon to clam keepers
