Clam keeps walking

I have a 2" Gold Maxima that likes to cram it's shell up against the front glass. I move him away and overnight he moves back. I wouldn't mind so much but I can't get my algae scraper in there. What sort of techniques do you use for getting a clam to stay put?

Babies like to move at night. :) I would place him up in your rock work but don't wedge him between the rocks so he can't fully open up. Also take into consideration the water movement where he will be as they don't like a lot of it. If you decide to keep him on the substrate, you could place a broken shell or a little flat rock under him so he will attach. JMO. :)

I tried the flat rock trick. He got off it and went to the corner. Do fish swimming over head bother them? Maybe that's why it's moving away from the open area.

Not to interrupt, but my clam is beginning to split near the foot. I've heard this is normal with clam growth, but it looks bad. Could there be anything else causing this? I've had the clam for about a year and it has done well in my tank. The mantle is open a little, but still has great color and tissue extension. Thanks.

They get use to that fairly fast :) Try placing him in another spot.

Would like to see a picture if you can share. Normal growth will be shown at the edge of the shell, called growth line.

My clam decided to root itself onto the rock that I placed up against it. Yea! He's away from the front by a few inches so now I don't have to disturb him when I clean the glass.
