Anyone know whats goin on with my clam? Is it something I'm doing wrong? What should I do to help him? Its on the left side of the mantle it looks like its receding or something, yet the other half is perfectly fine and fully extended.

Should I do a FW dip? Will it spread to other clams?

You can try a FW dip. Make sure and match the water temps. There are a few threads on doing FW dips. IME they don't always work but with the clams current condition it may be worth a try.

One died last night. The other died during the day today. Now I have no idea what to do with the other clams that seem to have started showing the disease. I still wanna know what caused this as all my clams were cultured. And my first clam was healthy for months and still is, then I ordered 6 from clamsdirect. They seem to be real healthy for a few months up until about a few days or a week ago. Almost all the maximas have started showing pinching. Any ideas what to do at all? Or what happened?

The clam in the pic didn't appear to have the pinching disease to me. That clam looked like it was going to go no matter what. Clams that are not in good health before the dip usually won't survive. IME, clams that are pretty healthy before the dip will do just fine, however, the dip never cured the disease for me. If you do dip the rest of your clams I would do them all at the same time because the disease spreads from one clam to the next. It seems the best results have been achieved by dipping the clams and then quarantining them for a while befor putting them back in the display.

Hi Bastianelli,

I was about to FW dip my clams in one of my clam tanks because they seem to be receding more and more. Like your clams, mine were doing fine for the 2 months. The original clam that got the disease/bacteria is starting to look better now. What I did was gave it less light by placing it lower in my tank and fed it everyday with DT. The problem now is that the clams next to it are starting to have that same receded/crinkly mantle look. Part of me wants to leave it as is and hope it recovers similar to the original diseased clam, but the other half of me just want to FW dip the clams, knock whatever it is out of their system, and get it over with. After reading your thread I'm as nervous as ever to place all five of my clams in FW dip.

Yea, he was the star of my tank. I had him for about 6 months. I think he just had a ruff week and that was the end of him. I dunno what else could of happend. He was by far my best fish. Odly enough he was very resistant to ich, if he ever had any spots on him by the next day he would shed a layer that was on his skin and it would be gone. Dunno what it was, but it kept anything off of him. He also would eat from my hand, I could also just put my hand in the water and pet him or he would swim in between my fingers.

Sorry to hear that. I always wanted a batfish. I almost bought a pinnatus batfish(so tempting because it look so nice and bright, it looked fake), but the LFS said that they are not reef safe, especially when it gets bigger.
