Clam Problem

I picked up a 2" gold maxima last week and it has lost it's foot. I placed it near my existing blue maxima and left it alone for 5 days. I haven't noticed anything going near it during the day or night either.

I buried a frag disc underneath it. I noticed that it was on it's side t2 days ago, with the foot still attached, and I did gently set it back onto the disc. Yesterday I noticed that it wasn't opening up much and thought I'd try a different area of the tank and noticed that the foot is completely off.

Is it likely a goner? Can a 2" clam fowl 150 gallons of water?I'm traveling for business next week, so I don't want to take a chance on the clam dying and causing a problem. Any recommendations?

My clam has dropped that before and is still fine; that it isn't open isn't a good sign. I wouldn't want a dead clam in my system when not there to do anything about it, do you have a strong hermit crew? Tough question though; if I thought it really looked bad, I'd maybe put it in a bucket with an airline and some carbon and hope for the best when I got back to it.

When I had a sick clam the CUC got to it long before it could pollute the tank which wasnt a good thing because I think it would have made a full recovery.

once a clam appears sickly it's usually a goner.

the fact that anything (and everything!) will eat a dead clam is good because that means it won't pollute your aquarium significantly (unless it's a REALLY big Tridacna).

Thanks guys, I'm glad that I posted!

I waived my hand over it earlier, and it is responsive. Sdtill not opening all the way. I didn't think of the cleanup crew, but I have hermits in the tank, and no one is going near this thing (for now). I'll take that as a good sign and assume that the tank and CUC can handle it if this little guy goes south.

It's a sweet clam, so lets hope that it makes it. I'll update to let everyone know how it goes.

Good news! So far so good. It remained upright in the same location while I was out of town and nothing has gone after it.
