any pics?

I agree-- there is a good possibliity it is not a clam

To answer the posters question---whether inverts and other hitch hikers live through the cycling depends on the degree of ammonia spiking.
If you have the purpose in mind of preserviing the life on the rock then you need to be very conscientous about measuring the ammonia and prepared to do a water change to bring the level down

I doubt it would make it through a cycle, but it's possible. A picture would really help. Photobucket is free and easy to use! Clams aren't necessarily hard to take care of. But depending on the species they may need more light than you can give them and they need pristine water quality...which you won't have for awhile. :)

the cycle is almost done ammonia is 0 nitrite0 nitrate 25 and ph is 8.2 will try and get some pics

I had some bad advice from an LFS and got a clam when my tank was still in cycle mode, the clam didn't make it. I no longer deal with that LFS but learned a lot about clams after that incident. If you confirm it is a clam then see if a fellow reefer can help you or maybe your LFS to keep the clam until your tank has been up and running for at least 6 months. It's not just about completing the cycle, you need a mature system. You may get lucky but it's really not likely.
