Clam Won't open

I have a 3" maxima in my 125 with 250W 12K MH and VHO actinic. It was opening up just fine for about a week or two and for the last 2 weeks it only opens about 1/3 to 1/2 the way...any ideas?

Water conditions or predation come to mind.

We'll need more information on the tank age, occupants, water conditions, are you feeding the clam, using additives, etc.?

Water conditions....7.025, 8.0, Nitrates 10-20, Nitrite 0, Phos 0, KH 10, Ca 450. 125g tank, 2 100g rubbermaid sumps one a fuge with calurpa and a 175w MH, live rock, 9" of southdown, the other just a sump.

Inhabitants fish: blue green chromis, freidmonty (sp?), purple tang, purple firefish, mandrin

Inverts: cuke, fire shrimp, cleaner shrimp, pistol shrimp, peppermint

seabe and a maroon clown

do you need all the coral? I have nothing close to it but I did put it up closer to the light after it started to open less.

Ammonia is 0 as well?

Assuming the 7.025 is a typo for 1.025 specific gravity, the only immediate concern I have is the shrimp and the lack of feeding.

Many stressed clams slime up and shrimp move in at night. Keep an eye on the shrimp when the lights go down by leaving on a dim room light, flashlight w/red film, whatever.

Feeding wise I would highly recommend getting some DT's and feeding directly. (put the clam in a small bowl of tank water for 30 mins with just enough DT's to green up the water.) I seem to be getting a good response from my clams since I have been adding Knops KoralvitF to the main tank as well.

Don't know the source of the clam, but if it has been in captivity for extended time at wholesaler/LFS/hobbyist tank without being fed you may be seeing results of starvation.

Has the clam attached to any of the live rock, substrate, etc?

btw: Are you refering to fridmani, the psuedochromis/dottyback?

Yes, your right the Spec Grav is 1.025. I will get some DTs for feeding purposes. The fish is Pseudochromis fridmani, your again, correct. I think the clam lost it's byssal foot as it is not attached to the rock. I could easily move it to the fuge where it would be out of harms way from the shrimp.

My clam continues to open only 1/3 of what it used to open when I first got it. It has been in the tank for over a month now. I moved it our of the main tank, to get away from the shrimp into my 100 gallon fuge with algae and live sand (it has good flow), and is now under a 175w 10K MH. I have been feeding Phytoplex since I can't find DTs anywhere close to here. Any more ideas? I would really like to have a few clams...

are shrimp bad for clams??? i have shrimp and want a clam???

also i thought clams like low to med. flow???
