clams got bristleworms !!!

stickle back

New member
ive just discoverd bristleworms in the base of my large derasa clam. its based on the crushed coral substrate.
i got two worms out but at least three others retreated further into the fleshy part of the base.
so far the clam has been in perfect health, but i fear that the worms will eventually eat and kill the clam.

is there anything that can be done at all ?
what has been others experience?

any feedback much appreciated.

The bristle worms will not hurt the clam as long as it is healthy. They only eat dead or dying things. I have one about 8-10" long that lives underneath one of my clams.

bristleworm termination

bristleworm termination

if you want to get rid of the bristleworms you can take a piece of food, such as mysis shrimp, and put it into a piece of pantyhose, and tie the pantyhose so that the bristleworms cannot get to the food, the bristleworms will smell the food and try to get it, but will get caught in the pantyhose, then you just take it out and flush it

i dont lie, try it, see what happens, if you dont believe me you will believe the results, their bristles get stuck in the pantyhose
