With good bulbs and not an overly deep tank, keep whatever you like. If your tank is deeper than typical or you are using cheap bulbs you might have some difficulties. I don't know the dimensions of a 37g tank off the top of my head.
Depends on the bulbs/ballast. A strong ballast, good bulbs and individual reflectors would probably be find an any "standard" depth tank
I run a hamilton retro (considered to be slightly underpowered) with a single reflector and geissman bulbs and have had success keeping Derasa and Maxima clams in my 18" deep tank.
I have an IceCap 660 4 x 54w T5 and my maxima has tripled in size, in 1 year, and he's in the front of the tank about 3 inches from the glass, so he's not even getting the maximum amount of light from all 4 bulbs.
Similar here. 6 bulb tek fixture 4" off of the surface of a 90. I have two maximas that are doing great. I've had one for 2 years and the other for about 8 months.
