.......And many common fish in the trade cause huge destruction thru routine abuse of crowbars and poisons to collect them. Amazing how such an "eco-conscious" crowd as private and public aquarists worldwide have such a blind-spot about that.
Poor Philippines and Indonesia....where the lions share of fish come from to thrill everyone.
Their reefs suffer systematic and measured damage thru the non attention and non concern from the aquarium world.
Now thats a bad thing.

If I know a fish is from the Philippines or Indonesia I will refuse to buy it, and thats the best thing we can do besides educating the public to get the collectors there to improve their collection practices. I go out of my way to get fish from Australia, the Red Sea, Hawaii, Christmas Is., Tonga, ect. I do not personally know a single aquarist that has a blind spot about the collection practices of these countries and everyone I know is appaled. People however are often ignorant about these practices and human nature being what it is people want cheap fish and look to save money so these places thrive. It is the trade that is going to have to be the agent of change here and clean up its act. My point is that I just dont think collecting rare or geographically limited or isolated fish is a good idea. Ever.

The % of clean fish from the South Pacific is dwarfed by the Cyanide triangle of Philippines, Indo and Viet Nam.

If a few of you stick to some shared mission to stay the course...good.

The institutionalization of doing it wrong is a long running fact.
The fact that you know no one that has any fish from Indo; Bali, Sulawesi, Sumbawa,Bangaai Islands, Flores etc. Philippines; Cebu and Viet Nam is amazing.

No one in the world condones the poison...they just buy the produce.

I never said this, these are your words. I dont have a shared mission, I do what I can do, mostly boycott and educate when I can on the BS that is going on in the trade. If people choose to be hypocrites (most are IMO) there is nothing I can about it and like I said, we can probably agree we are battling human nature itself when people buy said produce.
