hopefully I get a clean up crew this week

ya that hit pretty quick huh? just a couple days and diatoms like that, it started looking really bad a friday night a few hours after I posted that original pic showing them, but i didnt feel like taking more pictures and getting on the computer again. hopefully they go away soon

I just went and picked up PART of my cleaning crew. Not all of it, but I got 10 snails.

4 - Cerith snails
4 - Nerite snails
2 - Margarita snails

I thought I was only getting cerith and nerite snails, but they threw those margarita snails in on accident, oh well no big deal. Right now they're acclimating, I only have 1 scarlet hermit crab in there as of right now. I want to get some small blue legs, but none of the stores I've been to really have them right now. So hopefully I can come up on some of those in the near future.

Diatom Progress
IMG_2523.jpg

PODSSS!!! I know they look like just white specs but they are infact pods running all over the glass and rocks. Adding a bunch of Phyto Feast Live must have helped them colonize and reproduce faster, along with the fact that there are no predators in there right now.

Sweet looking tank.
Thanks man,
the diatoms are still slowing going away more and more, but it looks like what is left of them is now turning into red slime. Maybe Im wrong, but Ive had it before and it looks very similar.

Im thinking about doing a water change, to keep that algae on the low, but I also dont want to cut whatever cycle my tank is going through short. Daily picture and water test results coming later.

WOOHOO!!! I just got home from CFM was a great event put on by IEMAS. There were some great deals to be had! If I wasnt on a tight budget...man, I would have been on one after that event. Im sure people left the show trying to come up with 50 ways to break the news to their significant others about how and why they spent so much. It was great to see all the vendors out there. I myself came up on quite a few zoas/palys this weekend. Between friday and today I aquired 9 new types. Supposed to have 11, but another deal didnt go through this weekend, hopefully this week though.
Here is the list:
-Fire and Ice (big frag, thanks goodtimes)
-unknown blue and grean zoa (trade from Peter)
-some cool palys (theloud1)
-soloman island zoas (theyre extremely bright)
-Ring of Fire (Stewarts Frags, they almost look like a form of Lunar Eclipse)
-Velvet Moss zoas (Age of Aquariums)
-Hawaiian Ding Dangs (Age of Aquariums)
-Red People Eaters (Age of Aquariums)
-Hawaiian People Eaters (Age of Aquariums)

I am more than happy with the collecting I've got building. Still missing a few types that I really want, but in time I'll get them. To name a few, Blue Agave, Red Halo, Jokers, Rastas....

There was one more thing I came home to that made the day even better, well first let me tell you that on Friday when I left for Riverside I shut the lights off on my tank, and left them off all weekend. If you guys recall, my diatoms were turning into red slime and the tank was looking better, but still kind of gnarley. Well today the sand is WHITE! Back to normal, no water change, no vaccuming, no increased CUC. And boy are there pods. To many, more than I need on the glass! Im going to do a water test today and hopefully the basic levels are solid. I will post those results in a little while.

Full Tank Shot

All the white specs you see on the glass are pods! Theyre really taking advantage of their time with no tank mates to hunt them down.

Here is my new Sicce psk-2500 pump that I'll be installing tomorrow as a new return pump. 650gph and it uses 40w. This will be a nice improvement.
IMG_2553.jpg

My skimmer did ALOT of work over the weekend. The cup was grungy, but if you look at the pic and check out the neck of the skimmer it had turned black and I didnt know why.
IMG_2552.jpg

I tried wiping it with a paper towel and it was a thick, blackish brown mud type of substance.

thats all for now, I hope everyone had as good of a weekend as I did.

Ya thats exactly what I was thinking. Im pretty sure thats what it was. Ill take pictures of all the new zoas and palys this week. I really scored big on that stuff, I just want to wait on pics till theyre all acclimated and open. maybe i can borrom a macro lense to really get some good shots

I know what that black stuff in the skimmer was from most likely. I run a bag of chemi pure in the first half of the chamber, where the drain is. Im thinking thats what it is from.

Results of todays water test:
pH - 8.2-8.4
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20-40

As promised, today is Thursday and here is an update. I did a water test about 30 minutes ago and the results were about the same but with lower nitrate.
pH-8.2
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 10-20

I do have a small amount of redslime? growing on the sand in the corner, you can see it in the pic, but thats it.
:lol2:

Thanks, here are a few more.

The pistol shrimp made himself a burrow already, havent seen him since, it will probably be a week or so before I do. Here is the other new addition for the tank, it to disappeared shortly after being added. You'd think with the minimal rock work I have in the tank, things wouldnt be able to hide so easy.

Well, today while watching my pistol shrimp dig more burrows I took a closer look at what I saw a few days ago on the glass. I have flat worms...not cool, but the good thing is I dont have any corals in there so dosing now is better than dosing a stocked tank. I've siphoned some out off the glass and the rest I'll take care of next week. I want them gone
