Acclimation
Acclimation
Here is the aclimation procedures from keys:
Jeff, be sure and pass this on to all of your members.
Jeff, be sure and pass this on to all of your members.
All inverts are acclimated to 1.025 @ 78F.
We pack and ship bulk inverts dry, snails and hermits. Before you receive
your shipment have a container ready with "old" salt water (this can be out
of your current system) that is adjusted to 1.025 @ 78F and well aerated.
That is a measure of specific gravity and the measurement is temperature
dependent.
Float the bags in this water for aprox 15-20 min to adjust for temperature,
then just open the bags, rinse in aged water, dispose of the rinse water,
and release the inverts into the container. Please do not drip acclimate dry
packed inverts.
Proceed with any other acclimation after that if your system is of a
different specific gravity and temperature.
Most people run their invertebrate systems at 1.025/78F. If your system is
already within that range, you just need to float for temp, give them a
quick rinse, dispose of the rinse water, and immediately release.
I will acclimate them to temp and salinity requested at my house. I will also do the rinse. This removes the amonia and other chemicals released from the snails/crabs in the bag. Basically washes it away so that the nasties are gone when you add water to the bag. You don't drip acclimate them because the concentration of nasties in the bag will be very high until there is enough water to dilute it. The snails/crabs will then either get water in the bag, or be put in a tank depending on the order. My tank is currently at 78 degrees and 1.025 so they will be OK with my old water. I will have fresh water for anyone that needs it. Everyone should take there order home in my water then slowly adjust my water to theres if it is much different. You can take them dry if you want to re-acclimate them per the instructions or if your tank is at the 78 and 1.025. That is up to you. As for containers, zip locks are OK if you are going to take them dry or the bag is big enough to seal it with a rubber band (I will have rubber bands). I don't trust the ziplocks, but that is your risk to take. I will have some bags, but not enough.
there where a few people that wanted to look at the liverock. There is a lot of hair algea on them now.
