Cleaner shrimp

Hey everyone. So far I've had very good luck keeping my 4 cleaner shrimp alive. My 2 triggers don't bother them and my recent addition, an Australian Harlequin Tusk also doesn't bother the shrimp. In fact, the tusk and triggers go to the shrimp for cleaning. But what would happen if I got a puffer for my tank, like a dogface or golden? Is that certain death to my shrimp? Would a puffer eat the shrimp, even more so than the triggers?

Don't know about the puffer, but I wouldn't press the luck. If it is working now, I'd leave good enough alone. It may not last. My tusk was the traitor in my bunch.

Thanks. I have a feeling that the tusk is going to be the traitor for me too. It's already tried to eat my chocolate chip star and it ate one of my emerald crabs. lol, I woke up one morning and there was the tusk swimming around with the big emerald crab in its mouth. So are puffers more of a threat than triggers and tusks? Or just about the same and sooner or later my luck will run out?

I don't know. I've never really been into puffers. But if you have crabs in there too, then they are also at risk. But who knows, maybe you'll luck out still. I wouldn't trust a porc puffer though. Though there could be thought that a small porc would request a cleaning. I took a pic of a small porc and purple lobster and it appears that the puffer is requesting service. I'll add the pic here since it is such a sweet shot. You should see the unresized pic.....really great detail.

My trigger, and puffer were fine with my cleaner for over a year. Then one day his legs were scattered around the tank. I think it was the trigger. :( Anyway it may work for a while, but IMO eventually they will get them.

That's a great picture!

I agree, pretty cool. IME, I think that once the cleaner stops cleaning for any length of time, they will be viewed as a food item instead.
