Cleaner Shrimp

Hello, i have been in this hobby for at least 2 months...Well i have a cleaner shrimp wich i pay $20.00 last night everything was good, but today, when i woke up i when to see my 90 gallon fish tank. When i durn on the light i saw the shrimp at the bottom of the tank. I said it must be dead, but when i took a good looked at it, i did not see the in side of the shrimp !!! what the hell is going on. Could someone tellme what happen...the shrimp was red and all i see is clear....it hurts i pay $20 for it. Also last week my aroow crab die is something eating them or what the hell is going on...

also i put a powerhead in the tank for more water flow. and the water is around 80-83 deg . What can i do to bring the water temperature down with out buying a chiller... thank you for everything

The shrimp was probably molting.
The arrow crab probably died of exposure to the warmer temperature.

so out of curiosity - did your shrimp show up? - they hide after molting until their shell hardens if they are smart

I doubt the arrow crab died of heat - I see them all the time when I dive and in the summer the water temp is above 86 quite often for days on end

I have a little cloth bladed vornado zippi fan over each of my tanks (gallery - they sit on overflow cover they are the black thingies - it is surprising how much they can cool when directed across the water surface - any small fan - even ok over the sump water

83 may be ok if that is the max during the day - the problem might come up that at night it swings down to wear the range is too great - I have gotten away easy with 78-84 swings (slow) with no apparent trouble (and here I will get criticized but if you research it - opinions vary) but try to have less than that to eliminate heat as a problem for your future troubleshooting and relax because there will be many, many issues to deal with going forward - you never stop learning in this hobby

In the morinung the temperature is around 82-83 and night 79-81. Is it a good idea to get more fish or an anemone...am at work i quest when i get home i will look for the shrimp...

for 2 mths you appear to have enough fish in my opinion - the tang, chromis, clown, fox... guess it depends on what you can find that will get along and thrive and if your system can handle the load - for all I know you are running a 600 gallon sump with the best skimmer in the world....- the tang police are going to be all over you if you don't watch it - i think some people have problems with that tang in that tank - not sure - looks good though. Like your rock work!

I have 3 chromis, 1 engeneer goby, 2 clownfish, 1 powder blue tang, 1 foxface. Is a 90 gallon tank and i think is a 40 gallon sump taht i have. what do you mean about the tang police. So one knows how to bring the water temperature down without a chiller

By tang police he means the people who will be offended by you puting a tang in a 90 gallon tank that would in reality require a 125 at minimum when it is fully grown. Without a chiller they is no sure fire way to keep a steady temp that I have found. Unfortunatly chillers tend to be expensive. Don't worry to much about the shrimp shell in less it has been over a week and you still have not seen it. My cleaner shrimp is molting every two to three weeks. It is usually just a good sign of growth.

i addressed cooling above with a fan (which comes on with the lights) - it really works but as you keep adding heat generating equipment it might not. when I leave the house i set my AC at 83, I run t-5s, and rarely does the sump fan (mentioned below)come on

I also have a more powewrful vonado 9 inch sump fan that comes on when the water temp reaches a certain point and goes off, etc - but that requires a controller - i use the aquacontroller but try to keep it simple - try a little fan

There is no need to adjust the temperature. You're already at pretty much the ideal temperature for reef organisms and lowering or stabilizing the temperature doesn't really give you much benefit.
