What's the best way to clean a maxi-jet and a heater? The maxi-jet is pretty encrusted with dried coralline.

Do I just use fresh water or should I use a vinegar/water solution?

I would get a bucket, put the maxi against the wall of the bucket. Then put in some water and vinegar and turn the output to it swirls the water. And just let it sit for a day if you can. And you can put the heater in there too.

buy a gallon of white vinegar from the supermarket. put it in a small bucket and soak your heater and powerhead in it. I then use a very fine fish net and filter the vinegar back into its original jug and reuse it when needed.

I would recommend Muriatic Acid over vinegar, it's very powerful and will strip all coraline after only a few hours. Be careful though!

How frugal!

I use vinegar as well in a bucket of hot water and let the powerhead run for a bit, and soak the heater. After a good soak, an old toothbrush gets all of the coraline off. Be sure to diassemble the powerehad and clean the impeller and the impeller housing as well then give everything a rinse in fresh water.

+50 for vinegar... It's cheap and very effective. Run the pump in straight vinegar for an hour and then take a toothbrush and the coraline will come off easily. Disassemble, clean, wash, back in service...
