Cleaning the sump

I figured with all the brilliant minds here(does feeding your ego work:D) someone has come up with a better idea than the turkey baster to clean ones sump of particles. Any ideas are appreciated, I've tried using a pump also attaching the hose to the output and using the input to suck it up but it seems to jam the pump after a short time.

thanks

Is it too low to setup a siphon? If not, maybe you could get a piece of 3/8" or 1/2" PE tube and use that to suck it up. That's what we do occassionally to our QT tank. But that's up on a table. I have the end zip-tied to a thin dowel that I use to direct the suction. It works really well.

Not sure of your situation, though.

My sump is on the floor of the stand about 8in. above sea level:rolleyes: there is no chance for a syphon which gave me the pump idea but because it clogs I don't want to continue that.

thanks
