**Clear** Mesh Top

nice, like the clear mesh netting look.. i was also wondering about the 1/2" ~ 1/4", as i've heard from a couple people using 1/2" eggcrate that fish that don't look like they can jump though sometimes do, then can't flop back in so they are stuck to cook on top..

seems like 1/4" would almost ensure fish can't get through in a way that 1/2" can't.. any experiences with this with folks using either netting or eggcrate?..

I keep fairy wrasses and I haven't lost a fish yet with the 1/2 inch mesh. But I totally agree that there is much less of a chance of a fish jumping out with the 1/4-inch. The only downside of the 1/4-inch is it's not quite as thick of material and may be less durable as a result. I guess if you got a year or two out of it and then needed to replace it, it wouldn't be that big of expense considering the potential cost of jumping fish. 1/4-inch would block a bit more light, but still not very noticable.

Out of curiousity, anybody got a bit of the 1/2" stuff that they wanna unload for a reasonable price? I need enough to cover a roughly 80" by 48" oval tank! Pm me if you do. I really like this method and am going to see if I can make it work!

Saran wrap??
Is this fitted tightly to the tank?
Wouldn't that create problems with gaseous exchange?
Just curious.
Guy

im not worried about gas exchange in my tank, protein skimmer and three refuges and a sump provides plenty of gas exchange.

Not if it's half as thick.

Not sure that's the case. I've got a bunch of both sizes laying in front of me right now. My feeling is there would be a slight light trade off with the 1/4 inch mesh. But if you have a tank with small fish, I would go with 1/4 inch.

I'll take some of the 1/2" for a 48" long tank by 18" wide. Please PM me and I'll get exact dimensions. Thanks.

I built these for my tank but would like to know where i can buy more of this mesh? I would like to use it for other things as well. Its seems like its a secret as to where you guys are getting your mesh from. I saw the previous links but no one commented on if they were them or not?

i wonder if you could get a cast net from wally world and use that. looks like it may be the same material and they only run 15 bucks or do. also a fish net(the one with a long pole) might work too.

can someone please post or pm the exact websight and page of the exact mesh netting they are getting i realy wana build one of these

Jim awesome idea. Do you have any extra mesh you want to sell?

I can't sell any here in this thread, since this thread is just to show the idea to everyone.

i'm not sure of what type of material you used for the net...
platic or aluminium??

The material is a plastic-type netting material. Jim used aluminum window to frame the netting.
