Hello everyone this thread is where I will document the setup of my 180g tank. Well I should say upgrade :D I am moving everything from my year old 120 to this more spacious 180 . Another reason for the upgrade is so I can keep my bluespot unicorn tang. I bought the little guy when he was the size of a quarter and he has grown on me very much . But he is now growing at an alarming rate since the additon of my Buddy Dmorel's PBT into my 90 . Since the additon my bluespot has been growing like a weed .

Here is my 120 I will be upgrading from.
120-complete-a.jpg

Anyways enough of that  Now onto the tank specs and equipment.

Standard 180g Acrylic 6x2x2 made by Acrylic Creations Chandler Arizona. Tank is made from all 1/2inch , Has center overflow and a dark blue background. I have loved the look of my 120 and decided I want dark blue again . Tank has 2x3/4 returns and 2x1.5 inch drains.

Equipment is as follows .

4 Reef optix 250de pendants on ice cap ballasts Phx 14k
4x110 super actinic vhos ice cap 660
Asm G-3 Skimmer
Euro reef 8-2 Skimmer
Sander ozone w/ airdrier and luft adjustable air pump
Large LFS ca reactor
3x tunze 6100's
2x Tunze 6200's
2 single controllers
multicontroller
Mag 12 return pump
1/4 hp west coast aquatics chiller with via aqua 3300 pump
Phosban reactor w/mj400
Milwaukee ph controller for ca rx
Aquacontroller II
large custom sump
Reef Fanatic auto top off
Ranco controller for chiller as back up if aquacontroller is reading too low due to interference.

I plan on doing my own stand again but this time I wil be doing the wood work around a steel stand :D

More to come.........

3x tunze 6100's
2x Tunze 6200's

LOL you have almost as many Tunzes in your 120 (soon to be 180) then I am going to have in my 600gal... I am going with 6 Tunzes (2x 6200s and 4x 6100s)... But then again it will mainly be an LPS / Softies tank... Are you planning on getting more Tunzes when you upgrade or just sticking with he 5 you have... How do you run them (EX: 100% power, 30-100% intermittently)...

Can't wait to see this setup- your 120 is spectacular and I'm sure your 180 will be just amazing- of course I still need to stop by and see all your tanks. The pictures you post of your tanks are always great and I'm sure they are even better in person. Don't think I've seen any pics of your uni tang- got any you can post?

Thanks either can I .

How are you going to run the single controllers and multicontroller?

Is the new tank going in the same spot as the 120?

I will have 5 tunze streams . So I will have 3 on the multi and the other 2 on single

As for location . It is going where my 90g is now . So I still have to move one tank .

Cant wait to see the 180g ,because your 120g is stunning and I'm going to model my 120g after it.

Okay I am now trying to figure out my material list for the steel stand .

I really would like not to have a center brace so I was thinking of using 2x5 .120wall rect tubing for the top frame and 2x2 .90 for the rest .

Does anyone see a problem with going without a front center brace? The back will be and the top framing should hold a 6x2x2 acrylic tank NP right?

The 48" x 28" steel stand for my 120 uses a surprisingly small amount of steel:
DSCN3463.jpg

The top frame is made of 2" angle steel and the bottom support is 1" angle steel. The legs are all 2" tube steel. I'll have to confirm, but I believe all steel is 1/8".

I'm not sure if this helps for reference (I realize your stand will be 2' longer), but I know I expected them to use a lot more steel than this; but the stand is rock solid as it is....

Are you planning on standing the 5" up, or laying it down? I would say you are OK with it up.

Sounds sweet.

I dont think their would be a problem going without a center brace, but you might want to increase the diamiter/thickness of your steal tubing...better safe than sorry ;D

I was just thinking about somthing else I saw on a steel stand:

You could brace the sides of the frame for support and not need a center brace. You would just lose some room on either end of the stand:

Sort of like that.

Not the best diagram though.
