Not much to report except I took the wavebox out to replace the propellor but I haven't put it back in and things are growing . I like it but its too damn big IMO so I am going to see if it will work in the back corner if so it will stay otherwise I will just run 3x6200's and 3x6100's. But at the same time I am itching for a closed loop again .
Yesterday I came home to a Tunze 6200 (5283gph when full bore)loose in the tank it knocked a half of the corals on the left side of my tank down onto the lps and zoas below I suffered just some stings to lps and sps but other than that all is fine . However one thing lead to another last night and I redid the left side with 3 new rocks and removed 5 . Here are just a couple tank shots.
Tank looks great. How much of a reduction in flow have you seen sans the wavebox? I had been giving some thought to purchasing one, but not having seen one in person, I am unsure if the benefit justifies the intrusion in the tank.
Thanks ! The flow is missed . The wavebox will move every bit of water in the tank and it also creates a undertoe which goes towards the wave box from the pump drawing in water. No doubt a very useful toy.
I contribute it to 3 things . High light 5x250's over a 6ft span ,lots of snails and the blue back . I have a frag tank below the display which is lower light and black back its everywhere.
Reason I say blue back is because coraline likes to growing shady areas it . Black acrylic is black no matter how much light you have therefore the coraline does get shade where it grows. The blue actually is lit up by light which would not provide a dark area for it to grow. If I get any specks its after 3 months.
i just read the whole thread... tank looks awesome I must admit. you definitely know your stuff... gat any pics from under the stand?? I dont recall seeing them
the part of the tunze pump assembly in the tank produces almost no heat.. the heat is in the transformers and they are external. the water flowing thru external pumps can heat up quite a bit..also I found the "under the hood pics" nice and clean!! thanks clkwrk!
Hmmm, I have found that to be true with external pumps that allow the water to flow down the shaft into the motor housing but I thought the Sequence pumps only allowed water to pass by the impeller.
MacnReef- Thanks . I like both but only run the streams now. My old 120 was an ampmaster 3000 cl abd 3 x6100 streams.
I like them because of power draw and heat factor. If I was to have large pumps to equal the same flow I would add an easy 10degrees to the tank. My old ampmaster added 3-4 degrees to my system for a gain of 3000gph for 170watts and 3-4 degree increase.
My tunzes out perform for less electric and heat. Although I have less aiming capablities.
Well the tank has tanken a good hit this last week. I have been so busy and lost a few days in the process. During that time my alk went from 8dkh to 10.6dkh . It has been a long time since I have had an alk swing of this nature and it always proves to be fatal to some corals. I am in the process of cutting things up and plan on showing new pictures of the aftermath later or tomorrow . Its not as bad as anyone would think and there are positives to it . Good news is a PM has made it thru with flying colors
Back to work ......
Oh BTW I have found 3 ex large crabs living in my rockwork and I found all my missing frags  They now reside in the sumps of my tanks.
