Clkwrk's 180gBB SPS/LPS tank setup and progression log

you could make it a door type thing, that opens to the controllers mounted inside. That way i looks flush and hides the controllers.

I thought about that but then one side would be blocked off due to a permenate wall to mount the controllers.

This way the controllers are mounted in side the removeable side panel which allows full access to the area behind the tank.

The panels will slide up then in and can be removed with ease.

Well I hope.

Here is a few pictures of the process so far.

This is my sample piece with 2 controllers in place.

Here is my real side piece. I am staining it now . Hopefully I can get all my coats of clear on so I can have something to show tomorrow sometime.

on a side note here is day 2 with my new a200-1260

Not really but I like the ability if I need to . I can actually squeeze myself back there for tank photos.

I also like that I will be able to glance and see everything's in order . Like that old saying out of sight out of mind.

Anyways I have my final coat of poly on so now I am going to work on the mounts that will hold each component into the panel.

The hard part is pulling everything apart to start fresh an rewire my controllers and lights.

Okay here is to another late night working on the tank .

I have all my Tunze wires are cleaned up and run nicely . I also have the controllers in place and in operation. Just some trim pieces left and I will have to find another project.

Makes me want to install a panel under my stand with a bunch of blinking LEDs on it to make it look like it's more high tech than it is.

My tank is doing pretty good. It reached the 1 year mark today. I'm trying to keep my hands off it as much as possible except for cleaning.

Where do you hide your wavebox?

I can't see it anywhere..

I have been thinking about picking one up but I am worried that if I hide it in my rock work it will be impossible to get out to service once even more of my corals encrust over the rock and attach all of the rock together. Does it not need to be servcied as much? My other worry is how much of a wave at the top of the water surface it creates? or does it just move the water in the tank? This is going to sounds stupid but I don't want it splashing water out of the tank.

Nice thread Clkwrk,

did you treat your RB's before you switched tanks?

thanks

Thanks and nope I did not treat for them before the upgrade. My only concern is for sea spiders and AEFW's .

Yeah its not in the recent pictures . I took it out to change out drive units and just haven't got it back in yet . This time instead of the front right corner I am going to put it in the right rear coner and try to mask it . Roger says that rockwork shouldn't effect its performace so we'll see.

As for the wave my tank was built without a wavebox in mind so in order to get a good wave I had to ball valve my return a bit . I had 1.5" wave from crest to peak. Noise isn't bad for me but I have a large center overflow . If you have corner overflows I would skip the wavebox.

As for splashing water out it won't once you get it dialed in but if not careful you can creat a large wave that could splash over. But a little adjustment and that can be fixed. Also the wave is the same size every time.
