Closed Loop Opinions

I am definitely glad I made this thread. I was originally going to get a Mag 5 with the SCWD with about 2-3' head. That would have been a bad idea. I am looking into a mag 9.5 0r 12 or a pressure rated pump. I will do ahead and keep the MJs in there for now and later upgrade to some Seo 620s. In fact, all of this upgrading is in the future. But, I would like for it to be a permanent upgrade that I am fully pleased with. Thanks for all the info so far.

lmk what you decide to go with yourself. I would be interested to know. :)

Here's a thought. I have a SCWD attached on my return line. My pump pushes about 800gph. I'm using a little giant. I have it split inside the overflow (because the overflow is very large). It comes out the right side and then the left side. It creates a nice counter current, but not very strong. Partially because each side has lock-line and fairly large vents to direct the water. I also have 4 Maxi-Jet 1200s with Hydor circulating heads attached to a Wavemaster-Pro wave maker. I absolutely love the Hydor attachment! The system keeps a constant movement and surging and it's never quite the same. Placement of the corals is critical in developing your system. Lots of flow is generally good, but if should not always be in the same direction. The goal being to clean the corals waste out by gently moving water around them from several directions insuring that no part of them can become stagnant and also providing food in the flow. I personally donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t like seeing the Maxi-Jets but they do more for the system than the SCWD and I canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seem to live without them. Eventually, when I decide to get a larger tank someday, I will build it into the wall and have all the flow directed through holes in the sides of the tank. Until then, I feel that the wave maker Maxi-jet solution to be the most affective for my 60 gallon (with the Hydor attachment).
