Closed Loop

Can someone explain to me what a closed loop is? i know it helps with the flow in the tank. and can you also help by telling me how to install one on a 90gal with a sump/fuge?

ok im sorry i see what it is now. what i was wondering was is there any way to incorporate it into the filter system itself? like instead of having a separate pump for the closed loop, could i use the return from the sump as the closed loop?

The only real difference would be where your intake line goes. Since you will have overflows, putting your CL intake in there will reduce the risk of an animal getting caught up in it.

The two holes in the overflow are for a line to go to your sump and a return from the sump. If you have more bulkheads, then you could plumb it through there, but the process will be almost exactly the same as far as plumbing

You could put a SCWD on your return pump or just split it and return in two places, but I personally would suggest adding a pump and making your closed loop a seperate flow device. You don't want to make the flow too high through the sump

Thats the crappy thing about closed loops. The ugly intake has to be in your display.... unless you plan for it when building your tank.... which i personally did not, and regret it.
