cloudy water and a death

sigh...i went fishing this morning befor my lights came on and when i got home and showered it was feeding time...i noticed that the water was a bit cloudy and then i looked at my featherduster and the duster part was detatched fromt he rest of the body....could it be an amonia spike?

Have you chucked the worm out ? they can regrow their dusters under the right condition.

If the fan worm is alive has enough energy reserves, it'll regrow its fan, usually smaller, though. There's some notes on the process here on RC, if anyone wants to do a search. Losing the fan is a bad sign, though. I agree that an ammonia test would be a good idea.
 
did an ammonia test 1 test read <.25(tetra test i believe) the other read about 1ppm(sea chem) i tested it about 2 weeks ago and it still reads the same o nitirites and about 4ppm nitirates
 
What is the age of your tank, just done cycling? mature tank?, Type of setup? reef fowlr etcgive some more description of the tank for better insight............
