Clown died this morning, another on the way out?

Hey guys,

i'm kinda worried about my tank.

i'm at work and i am being told that my other clownfish has become sluggish today.

This morning i found my mated pair female in pieces being eaten by the CUC.

My theory is that the emerald crab got a hold of it and it died.

but now my family is calling me telling me that the male is sluggish. sitting in the corner, not moving much.

they were perfectly fine last night. fed them, bathed them, tucked them in LOL jk trying to find humor.

my water parameters were perfect 2 days ago.

water is crystal clear.

could ammonia be spiking since the first clown got eaten? (which i have no idea how it died)

I did notice a very slight haziness on their scales, kinda mucousy(no pic since i didnt think anything of it, it wasn't salty looking ich. Can it be Brooklynella, and can BKella kill clowns in less than 12 hours of showing signs??

I had an outbreak of brook that wiped out all my clowns in my harem tank within a 24 hr period, that disease is deadly and can spread to other species but your inverts would be fine.

Emerald crab is not the killer.

Can you show us a picture of the sick fish? Brook or velvet would have been my guess, but unusual given no other fish introductions. Some kind of foreign material poisoning?

Also to point out, the body of clowns would show signs of mucus, discoloration (especially on darwin clowns) and possibly damaged gills. The clowns would swim as if they are disoriented and eventually sink to the bottom of the tank.

i tried taking pics but every time it doesn't show what the body looks like.

whats weird is as a last ditch effort (and i don't have formalin or a QT setup since i'm getting ready to transfer to a bigger tank, of all the time right) I did a freshwater dip for about 1 minute.

and he is looking better. but i fear it is only temporary if the tank is full of the disease.

to be honest things have recently started going wacky, after switching to using Nutri-sea water from the 5 gallon jugs, instead of doing the salt mixing with the Instant ocean salts.

Well, parasites, if that's what it is, have to come from somewhere. Most likely vector is on a new fish, though I suppose anything 'wet' could be the vector. FWIW, when swapping tanks is actually a good time to,clear a tank of a parasite as going fallow is quiteceasy.

Yea i am going to run the tank Fallow for at least a month to 2 Months. and in the mean time research a trust worthy source for a new pair of Clowns.Setup a QT tank and prepare it with Copper treatments and formalin before going into the DT I am kinda sad seeing this happen to them.

Best 'investment' I ever made in my tank was to setup a QT system for new fish. Significantly improved survival rates - make me happier and less of a drain on the wallet.

After 3 weeks the fish in my QT showed got Brook, saved only 1 out 3. Hits fast and hard. Very glad they never went into the DT. LFS fish are disease cesspools.

I bought 4 clownfish (2 platinum and 2 maroon) from LFS for my 90 DT and every single one of them broke out in brook in my qt. I saved all but one. It kills really quickly. And one of my platinums broke out again a few weeks ago and died in my quarantine

I'm sorry to hear that.

its crazy how uncontrollable it is. literally hours.

and always during work or sleep hours where nothing can be done...
