Clown Experts Please Advise

I recently introduced a rbta to a pair of onyx clowns. after hosting, the black on one of the onyx has slightly faded. but it comes and goes. it has been 2 wks and the black is still unstable.
im aware that it may take some time for the clownfish to acclimate to the anemone.

my question is: should i remove the bta or will the black stabilize after more time.? both clowns are very healthy and eating vigorusly. what is more important is that the black does not fade. i would rather sacrifice the bta if if it means stablizing the black color.

is it fully hosted to the bta now? the first night my maroon dove in pretty quickly andhad little 'stings' (i guess) all over her from diving in, them she'd jump back out. the stings left her white in a few places.. but it healed

are u feeding the fish a good variety of foods? I know it helps theyre color as well

yes they are hosting the anemone all the time. only leave it during feedings.

yeah im feeding very intense color enhancing foods. i have several pairs of onyx but they are not hosting any anemones and there black is very dark. the larger female is not going thru this change.

I have 2 BTA's (One rose, one green) and ive never noticed any color fading in my clowns..

Host-related melanism isn't unknown in clowns,,, I had an ocellaris that developed spots when he was hosting in some zoos,,, he eventually moved into an Haddoni and they went away. I wouldn't worry about it,, if it looks healthy and he's eating,,, let it be,,, it will probably go away in time.

Every fish is different but usually the black will come back and even darken with some fish and anenome's

Yeah, they get black marks when rubbing against zoas..it goe away though.

I have two different pairs of percs whose black faded away almost completely when placed in one of my tanks with a BTA. The first pair regained their black when moved to a different tank. The other pair is still in the tank and spawning although still faded. I'm thinking of moving them out and see what happens.

i think im going to give it a couple more weeks , than move them out.

phender, that is really a sign. color loss. that reassures me that the clowns are fine but with that much potential color loss its not worth them hosting.

I don't know if it is the anemones, the tank, the lighting or a combination of things. All I know that the fading reversed for the first pair when I removed them from the tank.
A lot of people keep their percs with BTAs and have no problem at all with fading.

i agree phender, i think its an individual clown situation.

my particular clown is a wc. so many clowns in that particular area are not receptive to my specific bta, since btas are really not there natural host.

My Clown's are false so I have never noticed this type of fade before. Although many types of species (freswater) will have some color variation during times of spawning, I do not think that is what your experiencing here. Males may also slightly fade if one becomes subserviant when other dominant males are in the tank, but this may or may nat be the case here. IMHO, if they are still feeding as normal and there are no visible signs of disease or stress I would not worry about this occurance, and in all likelihood it will reverse itself.

However, if their behavior begins to change you may need to do some more digging into what may be causing this color shift.
