Clown Issues...

In Memoriam
My GF's sister just informed me of a problem...she has a fairly large (3") Clarkii Clown. ever since the introduction of a Coral Banded Shrimp and a Red Tip Bubble Anemone (2 days ago) the Clown has been breathing strange...very rapid to be more accurate... and is rejecting food and staying... the clown is about 3-4 years old from what i understand... the clown is in a 17 gall cube... the CB Shrimp was removed because we think it may have something to do with that...any ideas?

i just lost a clarkii as well. i'm not sure what caused it, but his back was bent to an S. he couldn't feed, and eventually succumbed to death :( i hope yours makes it.

maybe LFS water was dumped into the tank along with the shrimp and anenome, with the LFS water containing parasites...

i just got here to take a look at the fish... it appears that there are some small white things...almost look like scabs... on the head of the fish and a few along the side...it is NOT ich...would anyone reccomend a FW dip? i just tried to feed...the fish was ALMOST interested... but didn't eat... there was another Clarkii that was going to be the male in the system brought home from Tongs the day of RAP...3 days later it died... looks like the same "SCABS" along the side of this clown that the one from Tongs had on its (top) dorsal fin.

That Clarkii might not make it.

If not Brook....I think it might have gotten PH Burns. How did you acclimate him?

I had a flame angel a while back and I opened bag to let it float for temp adjustment. I went to eat and the flame angel was swimming in my tank when I came back ...I woke up the next morning and he had white scab marks everywhere...Orginally the flame was mine but was in a friends system. He stopped eating and eventually perished.

called my friend later and his PH was at 7.9 mine was at 8.3....

the Clarkii was ALREADY in the system...nothing changed except the introduction of a CB Shrimp and an anemone withen the past 3 or so days and the small clarkii the day of RAP... ~sigh... the owner of the fish added FW into the system a few days ago to bring the salt levels down a bit, but from what i understand...it was TAP water that was added... i think they think it was OK to use this water cause the TAP water has a pretty good filter on it....so im not sure if the water he added into the system was treated or not... might this cause PH Burns?

Tap water/Fresh water depending on how much SW was in the container/tank will drop and fluctaute PH levels when mixed with saltwater.

Everytime I top off in my tank with freshwater from the market, I add Kent Marine PH Buffer so it doesnt tweak anything.

I sounds like brookynella(sp?) to me.
I would do a formalin dip (go by the directions on the bottle, make sure you put an airstone in the bath) and then a freshwater bath of about 10-15 minutes with the temp and pH adjusted to the levels of your tank.
Make sure you observe your fish so you can remove it if it has any major problems.

hopefully its not Ph burns...Formalin....this can be bought at any LFS...im closest to tong now...

Do the scabs look like that? If so do what Phil said. Make sure the Freshwater has the same temp and PH of your main tank. And follow directions.

I rarely do formalin dips if the fish is really weak. Ill do it right when I see symptoms coming up. Simply because IME when they are weak they just die in the FW bath.

Kordon Formalin from Marine Depot is the one I have....You can call and ask your LFS see if they carry anything. They should all work the same.

Formalin...K...got it...im gonna shoot over to tongs... the fish has only been showing signs of stress for like 2 days so far... im hopeing it will make the bath....thanks you guys... will post an update on the fish. brb

WOAH....1 sec...since there is now an anemone in the tank... do you think that some of the Brook has been contracted from the anemone?!

if so...how do i treat the anemone / tank?

If there are issues with parasites, toss a UV on there for a bit. It'll kill some of the free floating stuff and should help. As for your critter, give him a FW dip. And I'd quarantine the affected fish away from the main tank for now...

Just a thought.

ok...no Formalin at Tongs...but im scared the condition will get worst...Kordon has a RID ICH + Disease Treatment....w/ 11.52% Formalin in it...i bought this... it says to treat the whole tank....i will not... should i add this to a 1 gallon container of FW or SW?....there are NO DIRECTIONS as to how much to use for single dosages such as dips...it says that i should use 1 teaspoon (5ml) per 10 gallons...any ideas...?
