Clown Issues...

thanks nicole...very helpful again...i will try that...i just need to ask the owner what the fish likes...

FIRST THING is to get some air into that water. Not so much that the water is like boiling, but you need to get some air into the water. Not so high a current as to where the fish has to struggle, by any means.

All the moving around and handling and medications... I'm actually finding this thread emotionally hard to follow. That little fish has been through hell!

Stop with the inconsistencies. Don't switch from one to the other and then back again. Don't move him unnecessarily.

Get this new tank set up (again, matching PH/temp, as Nicole said! Probably easiest to use old tank water (Nicole? My thought is that setting up fresh saltwater, even with PH and temp adjusted, might be too harsh)). Put her in there and treat appropriately. No more handling, no more switching. Consistency and a lack of outside stresses on the fish are what's necessary here.

If this little girl survives, you should give her a little red cape and call her SuperFish!

I look at my clarks and cringe at thinking of something like that happening to them...

Consistency. It's not just a good idea, it's the law... Well, for this stuff it is...

I would not use old tank water. First, it will expose the fish to the pathogens again. Second, the water is not as clean as new water. Third, the fish has already acclimated to the water it is in now.

However, the exception would be to use tank water in leiu of SW mix that has not been properly aged.

sorry the update has taken so long...let me help sum up what has happened...SO FAR... Kelly over in the MD Forum has been great help so far in helping identify what the fish has been going through... Nicole was right (how Ironic :p)...its Brook... the "scabs" that were running along the side of the fish was a secondary infection called "MHLLE" (Marine Head Lateral Line Errosion...which oddly enough no one really knows what causes the disease... so there is really no way to treat it...that is also what was causing the gill covers of the fish to be eatin away....

1) the smaller container is now being used for Formalin baths...
2) the fish has been moved to a larger 10 gallon tank for holding...
3) i am still having issues getting the fish to eat...i was told to use B12...(no idea where to find that)
4) but this is what is happening, this is starting to become very stressfull? anyone know what this might be im thinking its MHLLE again...:(

fin tail-rot. Caused by a bacterial(fungai) infection.

B12 is to get the metabolism back in the fish.

Ive seen some of this stuff in the KOI fish section at some LFS's.

sigh~ GOD...one thing after another...
thanks sam...whats the best way to treat the fin rott...?
thanks for the advice on the B12... i will grab that soon as this weekend is done

When you look for the antibiotics for SW fish this is all they gave me when my one of my 3 wrasses got it.

Erythromycin, and Neomycin for treatment. Where you can get those...I have no clue

Only pointer is that detritus on the bottom of that QT will have to siphoned out daily. Thats what causes it. Plus overfeeding, and overcrowiding of fish etc.

So just do water changes keep the QT tank clean, and once he starts eating he should recover.

Sam

Fin rott...hmm...is it easy to cure? how long did it take you? (will clean tank tonite, thx for the pointers.)

FW-fresh water.

Well when I had FW sharks I used coppersafe and I got rid of the gravel(Alot of detritus under those old school blue pebbles:lol: and once it was starting to look good I threw him back into the display. 2 weeks in a FW treatment but I also added salt as thats one of the main things with treating it for FW.

More common in FW set ups since large pebbles or gravel is used and all the detritus goes down there and just fills the tank with bacteria, and people really never do water changes since they just top off with Fresh water.

I'm sorry, is there something funny about this? If there is perhaps you'd like to clue the rest of us in...

And are you speaking from firsthand knowledge, or are you just making a SWAG?

That fish looks absolutely dreadful, to be sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make it. But do you know this for a fact?

Regardless I hate to see any animal suffer... Not at all.

Ah. A thousand pardons. I had to re-read it (again). I skimmed through most of it as I just thought it was banter. My bad.

Man, That poor little guy (gal).

I have no idea what to suggest at this point. If it ain't one thing, it's another.

Damn...

I might suggest darker surroundings, though, to try to calm it a bit more. And keeping it clean/oxygenated.

Other than that, I have no idea...

he is talking about HIS wrasse...the clown is still alive and kicking / flipping / flapping / swimming...well...what ever clowns do... im having a hard time dealing with it but he is getting his daily baths but his appatite has not yet returned :stressing: but i am doing the best i can and im learning many new things about various diseases and dealing with them...im hoping that the clown makes it...
