Clown question..

Hi I am new to saltwater and last week I picked up a snowflake clown. He was doing good swimming around the take. Yesterday I noticed it was just swimming in the top corner and it's been like that all day. What would cause the clown to do that?

Hi there.....first off how did you acclimate your clown? What are your water parameters? Where did you get your clown from? Clowns in my experience are one of the hardiest fish out there......

Search Google for the Hosting relationship of clown fish. I believe your clown is more than likely chosen the corner of the tank as it's host. Sometimes it can be an anemone or a different coral or the corner of a tank and even the overflow box and even the magnet glass cleaner.

Do you plan on getting a second clownfish? Clowns in pairs are wonderful to watch.

I've had a few pairs of clowns that would do this even though they were given pots, tiles etc they would still hang about in the top corner of the tank. After a few months some of them moved and hosted the pots, one of them is still there and now spawns on the glass at the top of the tank.

I am not sure what the water parameters were exactly. The gentleman at my lfs tested the water and said it was fine. I got the clown from said lfs and let it sit in the tank for 30 minutes then opened the bag and added some tank water for another 15 minutes before I added the fish to the tank.

I do plan on adding another clown. How long should I wait before I added a second clown?

As a juvenile clownfish tend to fight to become the dominate fish & become female. If you have a clownfish alone for a while it will turn female if it wasn't already. When picking another clownfish, you should choose a smaller clown and you will have a better chance of them getting along.

How long have you had the tank? Is it cycled already? or did they sell you the clown to cycle the tank?
