Clown Trigger chewing power head cords

I am hoping someone can give me some advice to my little problem.

My CT is starting to bite the power head cords running inside the display tank. Is there something I can wrap them in while they are submerged in the DT? I was thinking some sort of loom or conduit? Any ideas?

The CT is about 9" long so he has no problem destroying a cord within a few bites.

Thanks for your help

black wire loom with black zip ties probably your best bet. If that doesn't work you'll have to go with something where wires are on outside like a vortech.

I've seen at a LFS small black pieces of PVC that the cord channels through. It doesnt look amazing, but it's better than replacing pumps all the time.

on a more practical note, i have clear hose around mine with cable ties as i have quite a few biters in my tank and so far so good.

Has any CT ever got eletricuted as a result?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I will try them out and let you know how it goes. I am going to start with the clear tubing and move up to the loom if that doesn't work. I am hoping to avoid pvc pipe.

The CT doesn't get electrocuted, but I sure do!!:crazy1:

Get a piece of clear tubing such as air line tubbing pr a little larger. Slice it length wise and put the power cord inside.

maybe he needs to be fed more often?

I also don't know if they get electrocuted. I've always wondered because my friend's FOWL shocked me real bad a long time ago, but the fish never seemed effected by it? Turned out to be a faulty heater.

Trust me. This big boy eats a lot. About 30 Ex Large NLS pellets, a few clams/shrimp everyday.... and some live crayfish a few times a week.

I think because the fish aren't grounded they don't get shocked, or at least as badly.

That is crazy I have always wondered about that.

But yeah go with a vortech, will provide you with better flow and you won't have to worry about this problem. Plus it will look nicer.

I suggest you have your system drilled for closed loops to avoid this problem. You will have superior flow rates, and no equipment or pipes visible in your display.

The system is drilled. I am not sure why you think having a closed system automatically rids the need of power heads in the tank?????
