Clown Trigger chewing power head cords

You say your system is drilled, is it for the sump pipework? or closed loops? They are two completely different things. The closed loops are powered by fearsome air cooled pumps (ie, Sequence) that produce immense flow rates. Rendering the use of power heads obsolete = no power cables for your fish to chew.

Thanks for posting that link. It is drilled for a sump, so therefor not a closed system.

Switching to a closed system sounds like the way to go, however I have never drilled a tank before, and am really nervous doing that (but I could get someone to do it for me). Do you have any links or diagrams to a closed loop system?

Below is a picture of the tank. Any, suggestions on where to put the drains/returns If I were to switch it?

Well, I guess your CT problem isn't as bad as mine. I bought a 3.5-4" Clown trigger last year and it ate half of my fish.

I wonder if you can use copper or pvc around the cord just where it enters the water.

That is crazy I have always wondered about that.

But yeah go with a vortech, will provide you with better flow and you won't have to worry about this problem. Plus it will look nicer.

The stray current still messes the fish up and can cause them a whole bunch of problems.

As for vortechs, a K8 will push more and emit next to no noise.

The suggestion of slicing tube and placing the wire in there should do the trick, but I would use black, not clear. Clear may just tease the fish into wanting it more.

I assume a grounding probe would eliminate any stray current? I would like to have Vortech, however my wallet........not so much.

if you fit a grounding probe the next bite will be his last(and everthing else in the tank) the reason they dont get shocked is the circuit isnt complete, like a bird on a power line,as soon as its earthed its fried, the best thing is make sure you have an earth leakage detector or RCD in your power box that will save you

my CT only steals and hides the suction cups off the heater hasnt chewed the wires yet,but i agree in your case a closed loop would eliminate the problem as would a couple of MP40's

Technically you could run a closed loop without drilling too. You could run the plumbing over the top of the tank and then use loc line and maybe some eductors. Use a strainer type for the intake and it wouldn't look too bad. You would want it down several inches into the water though.
