Clowndude 190 SPS Tank

So after having a 65 gallon and being limited by space the time has come to upgrade. In the middle of getting custom tank quotes, a local reefer put his tank up for sale. Tank is a 60x27x27 with center overflow. The deal was to good to pass up. I put a deposit on the tank and will be picking it up hopefully this Sunday. Tank is built by DSA(Deep Sea Aquatics) with custom cherry stand and canopy. I'm still debating whether or not to use the canopy or not and if I do it will be suspended

Equipment list
-2xEheim 1260 return pumps
-RKL to controller water heaters and lights [Currently have]
-1/4 JBJ Chiller [Currently have]
-Coralife turbo twist UV 6x
-Vertex Alpha 170 [Currently have] Plan to upgrade this later to a ATB 200 Elegance
-Lighting will consist of 2x400 watt radiums run in lumen bright and 4x80w T5s
-Bubble Magus Doser
-2xVortech MP40s with backup battery
-Custom built sump with built in two part containers ,reservoir and refug area which I will run miracle mud in

Other Projects:

-There is a closet behind where the new tank is going that will fit water containers. I'm going to use it to hold two water containers. One for RO/DI and the other to store premix saltwater. The RO/DI will have a line that runs into the reservoir with a float and a valve. I'm not going to leave this valve open as I have read and heard to many horror stories about salt tanks being made fresh.

-I've always hated the look of all the electrical wires so I decided I'm going to build a slide out electrical panel under the stand. I'm also going to use a wire management system to run all the wires in. Hopefully this will solve seeing all the millions of wires.

More updates to come as equipment comes in and as I get the tank

Any comments or suggestions are always welcome

Little bit of an update. Went and got the tank Sunday. Also have been slowly receiving items. My Eheim return pumps and UV are in. Still waiting on sump and lights.

Here are some pictures of the tank. Sorry I haven't gotten a chance to clean the glass up much in the tank.

I hope to have the sump this weekend. If so I will begin plumbing the tank and hopefully haven't it filled by Monday or Tuesday. I'm already curing the other half of my rocks in a brute trash can. Going to go get aragonite today or tomorrow if I make it out of the house to the store in time. Then I can start soaking it in DI water.

Other projects this weekend will involve building out my water storage RO/DI and premix salt area to make water changes easier.

Any recommendations or suggestions are always welcome.

Looks like it is going to be a great build following along also!

Hey bud, thank you for the comment. I greatly admire your tank and hope to one day have a tank to your caliber. I just got word that the two LED modules I ordered shipped. These are the same ones we talked about. I can't wait to get them.

How cool for you to find a custom tank in your area. Great score and I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Yes, I got pretty lucky on this one. I got the tank for a faction of the cost of new. Tank is less than a year old. I can't wait to get the sump. At this point that is the major holdup as I can't fill the tank as I have to remove the center brace of the stand to get it in the stand. I also am going to glue a piece of acrylic to the outside back of the tank so you can't see through the back over the tank. With any luck fingers crossed I will get the sump this weekend.

I think you will love them. What was your offer just to be curious?

It's time for a way overdue tank update.

Things have certainly changed since the last update. For a while the tank wasn't doing very good as I was extremely busy with work. With the help of Louis at Elegant Reef Studio in SA, he has certainly helped turn this tank around with all his hard work on it. Together we were able to get all the sealife in the tank pleased and growing. I must say this is the best I've seen the sps/fish look. A few equipment changes along the way to better help sustain the fish/corals.

Current Equipment List:
1xApex to help fully control the tank
2xEhiem 1260
1xVertex Alpha 170 (New Skimz sm253dc on the way)
2x400watt MH Radiums
4xT5 60" (2xblueplus and 2xfijipurple)
3xFull Spectrum LED fixtures
1xEhiem heater
3xEcotech Vortech MP40
1xEcotech Battery Backup
1xJBJ Chiller
1xBRS Dosing pump used to dose Vinegar
1xJBJ ATO with aqualifter pump
1xCoralife UV sterilizer
1xGeo 612 Calcium Reactor with 5lb CO2 tank and Aquarium Plants regulator(This regulator is magic)

Tank Maintenance:
Tank maintenance consists of cleaning filter soaks twice a week, 30gallon water changes weekly suctioning sand every change, cleaning glass as needed. topping off ATO weekly.

Testing:
Testing the tank is very important and I can not say enough about testing, but one major life lesson I have learned. Always double check your test with another test kit. I got burned on this when my Alk hanna checker was wrong. It was telling me 8.5 stable when the tank was actually at 10.5. Which if you run at this everybody knows you can get alk burn. My eyes were telling me the tests were wrong, but I kept believing the test kit. SPS weren't happy and getting burnt tips. Lesson learned here though.

Current Fish Stock List:
Regal Angel
Blueface Angel
Flame Angel
Blonde Naso Tang
Pair of Black Clowns
Pair of Picasso Clowns
Copperband butterfly
Yellow and Purple Wrasse
Melanous Wrasse
Trio of Chromis
Green Mandarin - Male
Clown Wrasse
Midas Blenny
