They take enormous time and money to breed. I raised 15 batches from my tank before I called it quits. I had alot of fun with it but its very time consuming. I even built a fry collector to gather them from the display tank.
You will need many tanks, lots and lots of salt. Your going to be doing water changes almost daily.
You will need LIVE phyto to feed the Rotifers which you then feed to the fry. The live phyto is very important. My yields were better when I used live phyto vs bottled phyto. Reef Nutrition is the place to get your foods. I think I spent around $200 in food alone. Once they get past brine shrimp which is the easy step then they will eat Ottohime which again is expensive.
Right now I have about 100 GSM clowns in a 55. I’m still taking care of them but they are growing fast. I do not collect the fry from the display tank anymore but my pair still is laying eggs every 10 days.
Its exciting but I don’t think I would have spent so much time taking care of them had I known how much time and money it costs. Nobody wants to buy them either. LFS offer me $1 for each of them and they only want 10. It costs me more money in gas to deliver them, hehe.
I did have an interesting batch though. One of my batches had mis bars and some have a white circle disk in between the middle and tail stripe. Looks really neat but then again how do you sell them? I have actually started giving them away for free since I cannot keep these fish indefinitely. I shipped 4 of them to FL and they survived. The shipping was very high $51.50 since I don't get shipping discounts, hehe. If you live in driving distance feel free to contact me.
