ok well i posted in the nanotanks section and they said i would be better off asking my questions here. so heres the info, i got clownfish about 24 hours ago, 2 true percs , and theyre both eating well but the smaller of the 2 seems to be swimming on its side sometimes, and sometimes it just turns on its side for about 5 seconds and starts shaking as if its having a seizure.... does anyone know what this is? some people have told me that it is possible that they are trying to breed or so, but ive only had em for 24 hours?! help?! is it sick?

i think i caught it right when it was having its 'seizure'... take a look:

That is a submissive behavior exhibited in pairs that are bonding.

Not to worry. That is the first steps of the pairing up ritual. The smaller male is showing signs of submission to the larger dominant female by doing this shimmy shake dance. Judging by their size, it will be awhile before they actually start breeding.

ok thanks a lot guys, i was beginning to worry a bit. is it normal for the smaller clownfish to be swimming on its side a lot? because it seems to like swimming sideways, or is this a mating thing?

I have 2 false percs and I have had them for about 3 years and my small one does the same thing everytime I get a new fish or move syuff around.

k thanks, the only reason i was worried was because it does it while sleeping too

That seems a little unlikely to me.... Just because the light is off it doesn't mean that your fish are sleeping.

sorry, i didnt really clarify, it sleeps on its side or at least on an angle, its doesnt have the seizures while its sleeping..
and i've had them for about 36 hours now

Before my true percs hosted their anemone, they hosted the water surface at night. They would turn on their sides and float in a corner.

I would think as long as there are no signs of illness, they are active and eating well, they are OK.

hey ive got antoher question: i feed my clownfish frozen bloodworms sometimes, but i have a friend who told me not to because its not good for them...any comments? is this true?

just try to alternate their diet.dont feed them just bloodworms.try mysis shrimp, pellets and some multi food suplement such as marine cuisine or formula one etc,etc,...trust me clownfish will just about anything.
