I know that clownfish host anems for protection and etc.. what does the anems get in return ? The reason I am asking I recently got an anem (still trying to post pics on here is a challenge) was told they probobly would not host it within 4 min of them being together they acted like they have been waiting for one but the problem is when it was alone it would eat mysis and plankton now it has not eaten and I do not want it to die can the clowns host to much ? and what could I try to feed it seems to have lost Interes in its food:strooper:

what kind of nem and size they may be eating everything mine will feed large chunks of krill or silversides

food, and the clowns also protect the nem. Try to put your hand near a nem thats hosting some clowns. I ll bet youll get bit, and possible have blood drawn.

the clowns seem to take the nems food right from it what should I look for in a sick or failing nem he is about 4-5 incehs round huge central mouth orane/red foot when it closes it has white spots on it

yeah they have gone after me when i have to get in the tank to put stuff back that they knock and push over

if a nem is going bad you will know they never inflate all the way and just look bad I wouldnt worry the clowns will take care of it just keep the water quality high and you'll be ok.

you must properly identify the species of your anemone to take care of it properly. A dying anemone can wipe out an entire reef aquarium. There's an excellent anemone FAQ found in a link at the top of the anemone and clownfish forum.

The clowns don't actually bring food for the anemone. They carry it back for themselves and the anemone gets the leavings. as well as the fish pooh and pee. My tomato clown draws blood regularly .
