Clownfish jumping stories?

i was thinking about getting a screen to put over the top of my tank to keep all the fish inside esspecially when i am not home. figured it would be effective and not block the light.

I lost one clownfish this way...an absolutely beautiful female black ocellaris bred at Sustainable Aquatics. She was about 3" long, jet black (including her face) and with stripes so white they almost looked bluish. Just a perfect fish. I brought her home to pair with a juvenile B&W ocellaris. She lasted 3 days before she went carpet surfing--I went out for about 30 minutes to run an errand and came back to find her on the floor, almost completely dried out. Made me sick.

She was always jumpy and nervous, though. She always hovered near the top of the tank and never really seemed to settle in. I don't think it helped that the idiots at the LFS where I got her had housed her with a bunch of blue devils for months on end (she was hiding at the top corner of the tank when I saw her, but seemed in perfect health otherwise). I bought another captive-bred black ocellaris (another orange-faced misbar like the one I already have), and these two so far seem calm and happy. After reading some of these stories, though, I'm considering getting at least a partial cover for the top.

Some of my tanks had an eggcrate cover topped with a brick. Most clowns jump sooner or later, they are nuts.

I had this girl jump out on me. pic does her no justice. she was easily 6 inches long and had the most intense orange I have ever seen in a clarkii. not to mention she is the only misbar clarkii I have ever seen.

my GSM clown jumped last year. thought he died and my cleaners took care of him but i found him dried up on my floor by some buckets and stuff i had laying around.

Here it is only 1 day since my last post on this question. Twice today 1 ocellaris in a grow out tank jumped into the tank along side it which is adult black & white clowns. 1 lived, the other not so lucky.

no jumpers yet....but I did have an Ocellaris clown get sucked into the impeller on a pump. Was wondering "where the heck is my clown and what's wrong with the water flow..." Actually I take that back...I do recall a female clown that jumped into my overflow box once...

When I had a pair of cellaris in a 29 Biocube, they used to end up in the sump all the time. Drove me nuts, especially when they ended up in the chamber housing the pump--it was a B getting them out. Luckily I haven't had the same problem with my 34 Solana.

I lost both of my Picassos to jumping, the LFS owner has lost 4 Picassos in the last year to jumping. Maybe its a Picasso thing?

Nah its a fish thing.. All fish jump. They just need the right circumstances. I have a female Perc that has twice jumped out of the tank while trying to bite me. I breed B&W Ocellaris and if I leave a lid open on a growout tank there will be a few that will jump overnight.

Please let me know what you decide to do with the top I need a good affordable solution. Sorry for the loss I'm sure she was great!
