Clownfish missing

On member of my pair of clownfish went missing today. We looked forever and just gave up. I posted the experience in the new to the hobby section. They suggested looking in the overflow & sump. He wasn't in the sump. I found him in the overflow. It took some ingenuity but my wife & I got him out.

Are clownfish bad to jump?

Is there anything we can do to cover the overflow?

The clownfish I have had in the past like to hang out around the overflow for some reason. I have had to get them out several times of the overflow and sump.
In my experience they do not tend to jump unless spooked.

They are not the brightest fish either..... I was siphoning out some water into a bucket and the flow all of the sudden stopped. My curious juvenile clown was stuck in the 1/2" siphon tube. I purposely siphoned from the other side of the tank were the fish were but he made it over to check it out.

I had one go missing one time and didn't find him till a year later under a DIY refugeium that I had made. Never even smelled him. He managed to jump out tank and flop himself about a foot under my stand.
I also lost a six line wrasse and a hawkfish to carpet surfing in the past.
I have since covered the top of my overflow with an 1/8" acrylic sheet and decided to go with glass top to keep the fish in.
Most go without glass tops for several reasons including better lighting and better water evaporation.

Clownfish are defintely jumpers, you need to cover your tank. I highly suggest you do not use a glass top. Do a quick google search for diy screen netting covers and you will find a kit bulk reef supply sales. I agree with fish keeper about covering your overflow with an acrylic piece.

Given the right incentive all fish will jump. In general it's best to cover the tank with glass or screen.

That said, some fish are less likely to jump than others.
I've never lost a large angel to jumping. Dartfish, jawfish and wrasses are notorious jumpers.
Clownfish are mostly in danger when kept without an anemone. With anemone they will sleep in it at night and during the day search refuge in it if chased.
