clownfish not hosting

So I got a GBTA about 3 weeks ago and it moved around a lot until it found its current location which it has not moved from in the last 2 1/2 weeks. The clowns have found their little "territory" only about 10 inches away from it but have not gone into or really around it at all. I have heard that some clownfish will not ever host inside an anemone even if one is present and that is fine if they don't. My question is how long have people gone seeing theirs go until they finally decide to host inside one? Should I give up hope of this ever happening?

I have a rbta and 2 false percs. Its been 4 months and they have not hosted. My percs were tank raised so guess its going to take longer. They would never swim by the rbta but now they swim so close that the rbta tenecales touch them for a sec.Seems like they are becoming braver or instinct is kicking in.

Ditto my clowns have hosted my hammerhead, frogspawn, and torch and have not touched my green tip anemone and its been 6 months

I had two false perc's before that wanted nothing to do with my GBTA.

The same anemone however was immediately taken to by my new maroon clown.

Occs are the slowest to take host.
I've seen on here some peeps waited a year b4 they finally did, and some say never.

Tape pictures of clowns hosting anemones on the glass.

If that doesn't work tape pictures of sharks on the glass.

They have to be mean looking sharks though, with lots of sharp teeth.

Are you serious with the pictures on the glass??? That seems like a joke but if it works I will try it. I would love to see them host. I will also try the flashlight thing tonight. I'll keep you posted...

Pics worked for me for my orange occs, took about two weeks. I recently got an RBTA for my b&w occs and I'm using the same method again. It's been 4 days and they seem to be warming to the idea, the male actually spent the night in the nem the very first night the pics were up.

In my experience, the size of the anemone & clowns matters a lot. My two clowns wouldn't go near any of mine until I put in an 8" RBTA and after about two weeks they disappeared into the tentacles of the anemone only to emerge to get food... or when I scare them out! :)
It takes time. I've heard of a clown not hosting in an anemone for many years. That doesn't happen often, but to get your clowns to host then I'd recommend getting a few more GBTA or RBTA that are 5" or more.

I like the pic Idea, but has any one thoght of renting a clown? I have never tried it but, I wonder if I borrowed a clown theat knows how to host a nem, put him in my tank, once he host the nem, remove him and return him to where he came from. I figure the other clowns would now host by learning through observation. I dont know, its just an Idea.

It can be the type of nem and type of clowns. I have a 12" sebae and a pair of false per clowns and they havent host in it and it has be for 2 months now. I have traded the nem for come corals and going to by a bubble tip and see if they will host in it.

I figured, I just wanted some opinions... Plus I couldnt imagine the strees on the new clown being moved around & acclimated so much.

If they never start to host, try taping picture of the type of clown you have hosting in the type of anemone you have. If that doesn't work you could always use your net to scare them into the anemone... but that's rather mean'ish :(
