Clownfish questions

Hello everyone,

I have searched everywhere for a direct answer and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I have a 60 gallon mixed reef tank. I have a sump and skimmer.
Livestock: green coral goby, bi-color blenny, and mccoskers wrasse.

Params as followed: ammonia-0, nitrates-0, nitrites-0, calcium-420, can't remember exactly what my alk and mag are, ph-aprox 8.2

Here are my questions:

1. I am wanting to add a clownfish to my tank. I would like either a black saddleback clown OR a black ocellaris clown. I would like them to be as docile as possible. So would they be less or more aggressive if I only add one clown instead of a pair?
2. Are they more likely to be aggressive with an anemone?
3. My first choice for a clownfish was either a tomato, or a cinnamon, but I was told that they are very aggressive with age. Are the black saddleback clown or a black ocellaris clown any less aggressive then these?

I think that covers it.

Thanks for the help!

Todd

I am not sure about saddlebacks but I am pretty sure the black ocellaris will be fine either alone or in a pair. The ones I have had have never been aggressive to anything. I know if you get more than two they will show aggression to each other though, so max out at two.

This is not neccessarily a true statement. Just because you read it on RC does not make it true. Lots of us have more than one pair in our tanks. There are a lot of factors that will determine if you can or not.

To the OP: Ocellaris or Saddlebacks should be fine. Pinks are fairly mellow too. Maroons, Tomatoes, Cinnamon's and Clarkii's can get mean or aggressive.
If you can find an already mated pair, that would be best.

I love my saddlebacks! She is a little protective around her nem but only chases a little and never attacks. She does not like it when the hermits get near it though and carries them away. The only fish she really chases away is the chromis, she never messes with the cardinals and only occasionally has a spat with my flame angel. They are beautiful unique looking clowns.

i have two regular ocellaris and they are not aggressive. my female patrols the tank and acts like she owns it but she has never fought with other fish. she sometimes chases her mate but never hurts him.

I have a pair of true percs and the female was rather interested in the blood shrimp when I added it. Would follow it around the tank mercilessly for 6+ hours (not picking on it, just checking it out). The shrimp finally starting using its antenna to push the female back and by the next morning the clowns weren't interested. I haven't added another fish yet, since we're thinking about an ORA "blue" mandarin, but want to make sure we have the time to feed it frequently (which we don't have right now). We figure if we can have the mandarin eating pellets or something, we'll just put some cyclopeeze in the water and keep the clowns busy for 5-10 minutes (they chase it all around the tank).

Thus far, I wouldn't say our clown are aggressive, but they were pretty small when we added the shrimp. The female does occasionally swim over and remind the male that she's dominant (I'm not sure how to describe it, something like a fake charge). But, the male seems just fine and has recently started growing more. At first, it seemed like she was the only one that was growing.

I have two pairs of ocellaris clown one black and one regular, both keep to there own nem's that are on each side of the tank only during feeding time they all meet in the middle. once and awhile the reg ones will nip or chase the foxface or chromis if they get too close to the nem and same goes for the blacks if any chromis(don't seem to mind any other fish) gets close they will just chase briefly would not consider them aggressive in any way.
